Good morning! This is Kaysie. Today, she passed the category B manual driving test in Wakefield with just 2 driver faults.

A lovely young lady with a sharp sense of humour, who I will miss the banter from. 'Kaysie Chelp' as I called her.

It's been a journey.

Everyone, this is Chloe. Today, she passed the category B manual driving test at the first attempt with just 4 driver faults. What a journey it's been for her. So many hurdles to get over but, she did herself proud today.

I taught her brother Ben too. Both are great drivers.

It has been such a pleasure to teach Chloe safe driving for life.

If you, or anyone you know wants to do what Chloe has done in Wakefield, drop Mirrors Driving's CooL a message and take those steps!

Kept her nerve!

This is Austeja. Today, she passed the category B manual driving test at the 3rd attempt with ZERO driving faults. A clean sheet.

She was so nervous for her previous 2 attempts so, we worked incredibly hard to learn driving mindfulness and anxiety control which paid off for her today.

She couldn't believe it; I on the other hand knew she would be ok this time.

Pretest, she drove perfectly. In test, she drove just as well.

Well done to her, persistence and self reflection pays dividends!

If you, or anyone else you know want to do this, then drop Mirrors Driving's CooL a message and we'll make that happen!

The first photo isn't a photo of my car, the 2nd one is.

The first shot is a photo of a car in the same colour and type as I used to own. This was 15 years ago, at a time when money was tight for me.

It was bought to keep me mobile, for the princely sum of £300.00. It was awful, had about a million miles on it, the boot and sunroof leaked, the back seats were damp, it was rusting in parts and it was held together by good intentions and hope. It was all legal and documented, stopped and started.

But, it was a car, just. It kept me able to go and earn a little money. It served a purpose. It helped me to keep the roof over our heads, food in our bellies and clothes on our backs. A tool, a facilitator.

I ran it on an absolute shoestring.

When I eventually sorted the finances out, it was replaced by another Honda, black one I still own.

This one is a preservation project. It has had many thousands of pounds spent on it.

I'm going outside now, to work on that car, while I have the weather.

I'm not showing off, no. What the whole point of this post is, it is aimed to help people see that it won't always be dark at 4 o'clock, as my Grandfather used to say.

Keep going, no matter how grim life is. Things can and will get better with determination, self belief and patience with yourself.

Good morning! This is Keanan. Today, he passed his category B manual driving test at the 2nd attempt with a handful of driver faults.

This is such good news for him, we have worked incredibly hard to get this result and it is truly well deserved.

Safe driving for life, Keanan!

Everyone, this is Adam. Today, he passed his category B manual driving test at the first attempt with just 3 driver faults.

He was speechless at his result, which for him is very unusual. I'm pretty sure he will speak words again at some point soon... the grey Puma behind mine is his car.

If you or anyone you know wants to be made speechless like Adam, drop Mirrors Driving's CooL a message and we'll maybe make that happen!

This is Ben. Today, he passed his category B manual driving test at the first attempt with just 4 driver faults, having had his initial test cancelled last week due to icy weather.

He's a really nice young man and fellow car enthusiast who already owns an MG TF which he's in the process of restoring.

A good drive from a good driver! Well done, Ben!

If you, or anyone you know wants to achieve the life changing full manual licence, then send Mirrors Driving's CooL a message and we will get you there!

Last night it rained, then overnight it froze. Clear ice on the pavements and road surface, known as black ice. This is the road outside my house this morning. Not great for walking, let alone driving.

Drive more slowly, use careful, mindful control inputs, leave lots more space between you and any other road user. If you must drive, drive safe.

I'm pretty happy with my end of year report, entering my 3rd year as an independent instructor and the 4th year as an ADI overall.

The business consistently averages around one to two test per month, which suits the business plan perfectly.

Quality not quantity.

Not a bad pass rate of 78.57%, the DVSA records are accurate to my records so all is good! The national average pass rate is around 50%.

The pass rate has gone up year on year since I started out as an ADI.

I will continue to improve, learn and refine the process, so in 2026 we will hopefully break into the 80% plus pass rate ballpark.

Small steps, big results.

Sometimes, I have to remind myself about how lucky I am to have arrived here, with this as my office.

All of the jobs I've done over the last almost 4 decades, have led to this point, where I get to be in here, my office, every working day.

I'd always wanted to drive, right from childhood. I passed my car test when I was 17.

I'd wanted to teach people to drive from my early 20's.

Coaching people to do what is a game changer for everyone I teach is the best thing I've ever done.

Learning to be a driving instructor is the single hardest, most challenging and most rewarding career I've ever had.

I've worked in warehouses on manual and admin duties, shops in customer facing and managerial roles, garage workshops fixing stuff, on building sites installing mains electrical wiring and HVAC equipment, I've been a pro standard pencil artist selling drawings to customers, in transport offices in supervisory roles, organised and taken part in rock festivals, delivered furniture in a HGV, bread in a HGV, household electricals in a HGV, carpets, tyres, pizzas and, even people when I was a bus driver. All of which was hard work.

I was a working musician for many years, playing bass and doing vocals, sometimes running the PA system at the same time as performing. All of which was hard work.

I was the frontman and songwriter of a daft band for 5 years, the 9plan. All of which was hard work.

I've played hundreds of gigs in front of collectively thousands of people. All of which was hard work.

I learned music production through trial and error then released my own self written, self recorded and self produced music on Spotify and iTunes, under the name of Ian Nineplan Brookes, which is still available to hear. All of which was hard work.

I have engaged in continual professional development across all of my previous jobs, including this one, doing many courses and amassing so many qualifications, I can't actually remember them all.

All of that has led to this. This is the thing I was supposed to do.

I love helping people. It's been one hell of a journey to get here and, it's not finished yet.

Never give up, never stop learning, never lose faith, you can do what you want to do, if you believe you can do it and work hard, not just physically but on yourself too.

Reflect on what goes well and why, how it made you feel and, importantly, what didn't go well, why and, how it made you feel. Then, decide what you need to do to improve. Then do that. If it works, great. If not, rethink again.

Make the changes you need to make by being honest with yourself and those around you. Nothing is ever perfect but, strive to be as near to perfect as you can, in any aspect of life, by being true with and to yourself...

You can do it.
