Master Vehicle Technician – £40k Basic / £70k+ OTE Uncapped

Northline is recruiting an exceptional Master Vehicle Technician to join our workshop in Sheffield.

This is a senior hands-on position for a technician with very strong mechanical and diagnostic ability. We work across a varied range of performance, prestige and specialist vehicles, so this role requires someone comfortable moving between different manufacturers and tackling complex faults without relying on a narrow manufacturer-specific skill set.

Typical marques include Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Land Rover and VAG, alongside other performance and specialist vehicles.

The role

You will be responsible for virtually all aspects of mechanical diagnosis, maintenance and repair, including:

* Advanced mechanical and electrical diagnosis
* Fault finding and rectification
* Servicing and preventative maintenance
* Braking, suspension and steering systems
* Cooling and HVAC systems
* Timing chains, belts and associated engine work
* Turbocharger and ancillary replacement
* Engine component repairs
* Transmission and driveline repairs
* Electrical and electronic fault diagnosis
* Vehicle inspections and mechanical assessments
* Preparation and rectification of retail stock
* Complex mechanical repairs
* Road testing and final quality control

We expect the successful technician to be capable of dealing with almost any mechanical or diagnostic job that enters the workshop.

Full internal rebuilding of engines and gearboxes will be outsourced where appropriate.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for ability rather than a specific number of years in the trade.

You should have:

* Minimum Level 3 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent
* Full UK driving licence
* Excellent diagnostic and fault-finding ability
* Strong mechanical knowledge across multiple manufacturers
* The ability to carry out complex repairs independently
* Experience working with modern vehicle diagnostic systems
* A thorough and methodical approach to repair
* High standards of workmanship
* Strong attention to detail
* The ability to work productively without compromising quality

Manufacturer diagnostic, Master Technician or equivalent higher-level accreditation from brands such as Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi/VAG or Jaguar Land Rover would be advantageous, but proven technical ability is more important than the badge on the qualification.

This position will suit a technician who is accustomed to working at Master Technician / Senior Diagnostic Technician level.

Pay structure

Basic salary: £40,000

An uncapped productivity bonus is paid based on individual billed hours.

0–80% efficiency:
£40,000 basic salary

80–100% efficiency:
£15 for every billed hour above 80%

Above 100% efficiency:
£25 for every additional billed hour

There is no bonus cap.

Efficiency is calculated as:

Billed hours ÷ available working hours × 100

On a 40-hour working week:

* 32 billed hours = 80% efficiency
* 40 billed hours = 100%
* 50 billed hours = 125%
* 60 billed hours = 150%

Indicative annual earnings are approximately:

* 80% efficiency – £40,000
* 100% efficiency – £46,000
* 125% efficiency – £58,500
* 150% efficiency – £71,000

Earnings continue to increase beyond this with no upper limit.

Quality remains non-negotiable. Productivity bonus is based on properly completed, signed-off work and technician-caused rework does not generate additional billed hours.

No routine Saturday or Sunday working.
