So today the Project Porsche paintwork received a two stage paint correction and she’s come up rather well.
Monday I’ve got Andy from Dentz coming out to sort out various little dings in some of the panels.
Also a shout out to Rich at Motabitz in Ferndown. The stereo in the Boxster is the Porsche cd head unit with the optional Bose amplified/sub setup which was great in 2003 and still sounds lovely but doesn’t have Bluetooth etc. Being an optical wiring setup means if I want to put a modern stereo in it needs a fancy wiring harness to make it all work. Rich worked out what I needed and ordered up the parts while I ordered up a Pioneer media head unit ( same unit I’ve got in my Jag ) and Rich then came over one evening and fitted it all in for me. Now I’ve a great sound and Bluetooth hands free 👍
New Porsche genuine floor mats on order along with a new genuine fuel cap ( rubber seal perished ).
Got a full on few weeks ahead but hopefully I’ll have time to give the interior a good tidy up before the road trip in July.

For the last 3 years I’ve gone away with mates for the annual lads road trip which is great fun and two of the three trips I’ve taken my Jaguar Xkr which has been lovely. However my mates take the mickey as it’s an automatic and too modern. They all drive manual soft tops.
So this July we are off to Belgium so I thought, let’s look into buying something with a manual gearbox, be a soft top, fun to drive and not cost too much.
Made a short list and decided it had to be a 986 Porsche Boxster S.

List of things it had to have.

💥Late model so 2003 986 gen 2 onwards as it has to have the glass rear window ✔️
💥 S model so 3.2 ltr 256 bhp ✔️
💥 Manual 6 speed ✔️
💥 Full service history✔️
💥 Mechanically spot on ✔️
💥 Lots of factory options and this one has,
Extended leather, sports heated seats, Bose amplified & sub stereo setup, 18” alloys, climate control air con, colour coded roll over hoops and centre console.

I’m not great when it comes to working on cars when it comes to mechanics so it was good to see the previous owner had this Boxster for 9 years and didn’t scrimp on anything when it went in for servicing and needed stuff doing.
Recent full set of discs and pads all round. Back box was shot so a new stainless steel performance box was fitted. Gearbox rebuilt with new clutch, Ims bearing & rms seal replaced at the same time. New brake pipes, air con rads, Michelin Sport tyres etc etc.

Bodywork wise it’s in very good condition for its age.

My plan is to give it a good detail and tidy up and use it for the Summer and then decide weather to sell it on or keep it ( I’m already really enjoying her ) 😄

So as I’m fortunate enough to know a really good detailer 😊 it’s only going to cost me my spare time in labour to get her up to an acceptable level ( smart and tidy )

Started with the headlamps, brake callipers & wheels.

23 year old plastic headlamps are faded and scratched plus one corner lense had a crack in it so these were tackled first and a new corner lense ordered up. A good polish seasion and now they look 👍

Wheels are the optional 18” Factory ones but hadn’t been cleaned for ages and the callipers were faded and the Porsche emblems were in a bad state.
A good deep clean, polish and ceramic coating for the wheels while the callipers were polished and new emblems all round fitted.
New black wheel nut covers are on order so should be here next week.

Stainless back box polished up.

Ferrari 488 Spider spent the week with me having a paint correction detail then various panels, bonnet, front wings, front bumper, headlights, door mirrors, lower side panels and carbon skirts were covered in Carpro Immortal PPF paint protection film. Carpro Dquartz Pro & CQuartz Pro ceramic coatings were then applied while the wheels were taken off and coated in Carpro Dlux ceramic coating.

Carpro Dquartz Pro ceramic coating as the base coat followed by Carpro Finest Reserve ceramic coating. I’ll leave these to cure overnight and apply another coat of Finest Reserve tomorrow.

Made a start on the Porsche Boxster S bonnet. Having a multistage paint correction starting with the bonnet. This is a long term project which I’ll fit in around other jobs like when I have an hour spare this afternoon.

End of day 3 on the Ferrari 488 Spider. What’s been done so far?

💥2 stage paint correction to remove various marks, swirls, a few light scratches and lots of water spot deposits and etchings.
💥PPF paint protection film applied to the bonnet, front bumper, front wings, door mirrors, headlamps, lower side panels and carbon fibre side skirts.
💥Wheels cleaned up and ceramic coated along with the brake callipers then wheels refitted.
💥Carbon fibre rear defuser polished up by hand.

Back tomorrow to start applying the ceramic coatings to the bodywork.
