Volkswagen Crafter in for a full service and vehicle inspection, on the vehicle inspection I found the crankshaft seal leaking and rear brake pads low and discs worn. Advised the customer and rebooked in for the advisory work at a later date.
Came back and carried out my timing belt package, rear discs and pads.
Timing belt package includes;
Timing belt kit
Coolant pump & bolts
Crankshaft seal
Crankshaft bolt
Oil pump belt
Oil sump removed cleaned and resealed
8 litres 5W-30s oil, oil filter and sump plug
G12 anti freeze
Genuine Volkswagen parts supplied and fitted
When replacing the seal and speaking to the customer he said he’s only had the van around a year and said the crankshaft seal was done before he bought it.
Upon removal of the crank seal and oil sump I could tell the previous mechanic didn’t remove the oil sump and just installed the crank seal with the sump still on the engine, this is the wrong way to do it as it will just eventually leak again as this one did, the crank seal sits flush against the oil sump so if the sump isn’t removed the silicone gets scraped off when installing the new crank seal.
I do this job the proper way!
