Due to upcoming major long term roadworks near Upton test centre, Wirral driving instructors were sent the following message from the Test Centre manager yesterday….

Upton test centre will close completely from Friday 18th September (initially for a period of 4 weeks) and ALL examiners will move over to Wallasey.

As the current Wallasey Test centre in Union Street is not large enough, an additional temporary test centre will operate from The Masonic Lodge, Manor Road.

Initially, this will be for 4 weeks, whilst the traffic situation around Upton can be monitored. If the road closures do not cause significant disruption, the tests may be moved back to Upton test centre.

All candidates with tests booked for Upton will receive email updates. So please check emails on a regular basis.

It is vital to check which test centre in Wallasey you have been assigned to. Also, test times may vary, so it is vital to check both of these details when you receive any emails from DVSA regarding your driving tests.

Are You Ready For Your Practical Driving Test ?

With practical test waiting lists now at 5-6 months and DVSA finally clamping down on rogue cancellation systems …… this has never been more important.

AM I READY FOR MY DRIVING TEST❓

Tick off this checklist!

Without being instructed or prompted, can you:

Move off safely, Change gear without being prompted.

Use the brake effectively without bringing the car to an abrupt stop.

Are your mirror checks and general observations good, are you checking them because you need to rather than because you have to?

Can you follow directions from signs, select the correct lane, enter and leave it safely?

Are you able to make decisions on speed based on the current road, and weather conditions rather than the speed LIMIT?

Are you conversant with the sequence of lights at a light controlled junction? Do you know when the green arrows will come on and what to do?

How is your roundabout work? Can you confidently slow to flow, and enter/leave the roundabout without being hesitant or taking risks?

These are just a few of the key elements that you need to be proficient at to be able to drive independently!

The big one is are you ready for the RESPONSIBILITY of keeping yourself and the 4 others in the car with you safe, plus other road users?

Driving is not an easy skill to learn, learning to manage our thoughts, emotions, feelings and consequent actions is harder than handling the car alone? Can you do that?

Learn nice and steady, come to lessons alert and prepared, don’t miss lessons, be reflective about your progress, if you can get practice, make it varied, not just the same routes, work on your manoeuvres, be patient with yourselves you will get there and achieve your pink licence.

Do it properly and safely ✅✅✅
