I often draw this picture but today it's in colour. Today's learner B, like most of my clients, has learning needs that require creative and flexible solutions.

The colour in this drawing was incidental (I happened to have one of those multicolour pens to hand). B latched on to the colours and the association with directions has stuck. Pink=left and so on.

All I need now is to incorporate Casper!!!

The red MG ZS has been a popular car to learn in and I love it too...... so much in fact I bought another White one for personal use a year ago.

It's time for the White car to step up now. I have learners who live a good distance away and the longer range is useful.

The Disability Driving Instructors website is a super resource for anyone looking to start or resume driving with a special need or disability.

I offer lessons in my automatic car to anyone, but focus mainly on learners with special needs including drivers getting back behind the wheel after an illness.

The areas covered include Haverhill and surrounding villages, South Cambs, Saffron Walden. Test centres include Cambridge, Bury St Edmunds, Bishop's Stortford.

It's been a while since I've done a Facebook shout out for a driving test pass but today's was memorable.

In Bury St Edmunds today, Louise passed her test. The examiner was all smiles saying he'd learnt a lot. 🤔

On her first lesson Louise was very nervous and self soothed by talking. I encouraged her from the start to keep talking, but ideally about what she could see out the window. Louise accepted the challenge with good natured enthusiasm and developed a whole new universe of characters and features.

Today the examiner was introduced to some of them:

Sally : any other driver, especially those behaving unpredictable.

Casper : the driver watching you come round the roundabout that sometimes isn't there but you still have to signal to. 👻

Cake : bollards mostly, sometimes lampposts in the middle of the road. Louise is a baker and these road features remind her of cake decorations... Obviously. 😆

Squirrels...as in 'make like a squirrel' on a bendy road.

Sandwich: The turn lane... er sandwiched between carriageways for turning right.

I use Louise lingo in most lessons now. I will be forever grateful and fondly reminded of our very entertaining drives every time I indicate to leave a roundabout. ☺️

It's been a year of adjusting to a slower pace but nevertheless successful with a dozen passes either in my car or learners' own cars.

Next year continues with a handful of learners at a time.

I'd like to wish all the lovely people I've met this year a very merry Christmas. Thank you for your commitment and may your driving careers be uneventful. 👌

Looking forward to getting some new learners on the road in 2025.
