STAGE 2 REMAP: THE NEXT LEVEL
Stage 2 remapping is designed for vehicles that have had supporting hardware upgrades. Unlike Stage 1, this level requires modifications that allow the engine to flow and manage air more efficiently.

Typical supporting upgrades include:
• Upgraded exhaust systems
• Performance downpipes
• Improved intake systems
• Larger intercoolers

What it does:
• Delivers greater power and torque gains
• Optimises performance around upgraded components
• Enhances turbo response
• Provides stronger mid-range pull
• Maximises the potential of your setup

Stage 2 is more bespoke and must be calibrated specifically to the vehicle and its hardware. Done properly, it transforms how the vehicle drives — sharper, stronger and more responsive throughout the rev range.

Not sure what Stage 1 or Stage 2 would give your vehicle?
Head over to our website www.maxmph.co.uk/services/vehicle-remapping and try the remap performance app. Simply enter your vehicle details and it will show you the potential power and torque gains available. It’s quick, easy to use, and gives you a clear idea of what to expect. Try it out today.

This Transit had used 6 litres of oil in just 200 miles.

The turbo had suffered a severe failure, allowing engine oil to pass through the bearing and fill the entire intake system. As if that wasn’t enough, two of the injectors had also decided to take early retirement.

The resulting collateral damage caused further issues with the EGR system and the MAP sensor, so this quickly turned into a full clean-up and repair operation.

With the failed components replaced and the intake system thoroughly cleaned out, the vehicle was restored to full drivability — something the customer hadn’t experienced for quite some time.

When your vehicle feels like it’s wandering all over the road with no steering input, there’s a good chance the top mount bearings have collapsed, broken apart and lost the bearings inside.

It’s one of those faults that can make a car feel unstable, unpredictable and unpleasant to drive. If left unchecked, it can also lead to further wear in the suspension and steering system.

If your car doesn’t feel right, don’t ignore it. Getting it checked early can save bigger problems further down the line.

This BMW came to us after having a long list of parts fitted in an attempt to cure a violent knock from the front driver’s side. Despite the parts catalogue seemingly being thrown at it, the problem remained.

Another local garage had quoted the customer over £2,000 for a complete new steering rack.

Knowing the common issues with the BMW F-chassis steering racks, we suspected the thrust bush inside the rack itself. Rather than replacing the entire unit, we installed the upgraded thrust bush supplied by BMW.

Problem solved — the knock completely gone and the customer saved a significant amount compared to replacing the whole rack.

STAGE 1 REMAP: THE EVERYDAY UPGRADE

Stage 1 is the most common remap and suits standard vehicles with no hardware changes.

What it does:
• Increases power and torque
• Improves throttle response
• Smooths power delivery
• Often improves fuel economy when driven sensibly
This stage works within the manufacturer’s safe limits, making it ideal for daily drivers, work vehicles and family cars.
Most people notice the difference straight away – especially in overtaking, hill climbs and towing.

When a vehicle suffers a turbo failure, it needs sorting quickly — especially when it’s part of a working fleet.

We were happy to assist a company we regularly network with when one of their vehicles experienced a turbo failure. From the initial phone call to the vehicle being repaired and handed back, the whole process took just 48 hours.

Fast diagnosis, efficient repair and getting the vehicle back where it belongs — on the road and working.

Customer stated they could hear the turbo working, but the vehicle felt very flat and unresponsive on the road.

To track down the issue we carried out a UV smoke test on the intake system. This diagnostic method allows us to introduce smoke into the system so any leaks become immediately visible.

It didn’t take long for the problem to reveal itself — a split hose that was allowing boost pressure to escape. Once the smoke passed through the system, the leak became obvious straight away.

With the fault identified, the repair was straightforward and the vehicle could once again deliver the power it was supposed to.

Another example of how the right diagnostic tools save time and get straight to the root of the problem.

Something a little different in the workshop recently – a freshly imported Japanese vehicle that arrived with almost no brake response.

With braking systems, a lack of pedal feel is often a sign that something isn’t quite right in the hydraulic system. In this case, the issue was a significant amount of trapped air within the brake lines. Air in the system compresses, unlike brake fluid, which means the pressure needed to apply the brakes properly simply isn’t there.

We carried out a full brake bleed across all callipers, removing a surprising amount of trapped air from the system. Once completed, the brake pedal returned to normal and the vehicle was back to delivering the stopping power it should.

Sometimes the solution isn’t complex – it just takes the right diagnostics and a careful approach to get things working exactly as they should.

CUSTOMER FEEDBACK THAT SAYS IT ALL

A huge thank you to Josie Lauren Ellis for this fantastic review.

“My car had an issue that 4 other mechanics had been unable to diagnose and I was feeling frustrated and a bit fobbed off. I was told I needed more in-depth diagnostics and found Max MPH online. After one call with Alex I felt like I could trust him to properly look into it and I was correct. He found the issue, got it fixed the same week and even dropped me off at work and picked me up to collect my car after. He also talked me through the issues and was fairly priced. I’ll be taking my car back here in the future.”

This is exactly what we aim for — honest advice, proper diagnostics, and going the extra mile for our customers. Modern vehicles can be complex, but with the right tools, experience, and attention to detail, problems can be solved properly the first time.

If your vehicle has a fault nobody else can find, we’re here to help.

MOT FAIL TO MOT PASS

This vehicle came to us after failing its MOT with a small list of major defects that needed attention.

We got straight to work resolving the issues, starting with a binding service brake which was causing poor performance and unnecessary wear. All braking components were then fully serviced and fitted with new brake pads to restore safe, reliable stopping power.

The front suspension also needed attention, so we installed new lower control arms to bring everything back into proper alignment and improve handling.

Finally, a headlight alignment issue turned out to be a simple but important fix — the bulb had been fitted incorrectly. Once installed the right way up, the beam pattern was spot on and ready for the road.

Another vehicle repaired properly, safely, and back where it belongs.
