🍂🚐 Is your motorhome ready for autumn?

Crisp mornings, quieter campsites and stunning scenery—autumn is a great time to get away! Before your next trip, give your motorhome a little attention:

🔥 Test your heating – Run your heating and hot water before heading away. Don’t wait until a chilly night on site to discover a fault!

🔋 Check your batteries – Make sure your leisure and vehicle batteries are charged and in good condition.

🌧️ Look for leaks – Check around rooflights, windows and doors for water ingress. Catching it early could save an expensive repair.

💨 Keep ventilation clear – Never block permanent vents to keep the heat in. Ventilate when cooking and showering to help reduce condensation.

🚐 Check tyres and lights – Check tyre pressures, tread and signs of cracking, and make sure your road lights work before travelling.

❄️ Parking up for winter? – Drain down the water system, including the boiler, following your manufacturer’s instructions before freezing weather arrives.

✅ Keep your habitation check up to date – Have your gas system, habitation electrics and appliances checked, along with a damp inspection.

Tourer Tech Scotland Ltd brings mobile servicing, habitation checks and repairs to your home, storage yard or seasonal pitch. 🔧

👀 What’s wrong with this picture?

That 47kg Calor bottle is connected to a touring caravan while standing outside its gas locker, with a long hose running underneath the front.

Here’s why that matters:

🔴 The cylinder belongs in the designated gas locker, secured upright in the space designed for it.

🔴 The high-pressure pigtail should be no longer than 450mm on a touring caravan. A long hose routed under the front can be caught, crushed or damaged.

🔴 The bulkhead regulator should sit above the cylinder connection. If the regulator is below the bottle, oily residues can run down the pigtail and contaminate or block it.

A bigger bottle might seem convenient and a cheaper option for a long stay, but this is no way to connect it. If you’re unsure about your caravan’s gas setup, have it checked before using it.

🔥 Fire Safety Sticks available from Tourer Tech Scotland!

A Fire Safety Stick is a compact, lightweight alternative to a traditional powder extinguisher—ideal for caravans, motorhomes, campervans and tow vehicles.

Compared with a powder extinguisher, a Fire Safety Stick offers:

✅ No messy powder residue
✅ Less risk of damage to appliances and electrical equipment
✅ Longer discharge time than many small extinguishers
✅ Compact and lightweight design
✅ Non-pressurised construction
✅ Suitable for tackling several common types of fire

Powder extinguishers can quickly fill the confined interior of a caravan or motorhome, reducing visibility and leaving residue throughout the vehicle. A Fire Safety Stick provides a cleaner and more practical option for dealing with a small, early-stage fire.

🚐 We carry Fire Safety Sticks on the van—ask us about them during your next service or contact us to purchase one.

Always put personal safety first: only tackle a fire if it is small, you have a clear escape route and it is safe to do so. Otherwise, get everyone out and call 999.

🔧 Why is regular servicing so important?

A caravan or motorhome service can identify developing faults and potential safety issues before they cause a breakdown—or lead to an expensive repair.

🔥 Your gas system is especially important. During a service, we check for leaks, test the gas pressure and safety devices, inspect hoses and regulators, and make sure your appliances are operating and burning correctly.

We also inspect your:

✅ Brakes, tyres and chassis
✅ 12V and 230V electrical systems
✅ Water system
✅ Heating, fridge and other appliances
✅ Ventilation and carbon monoxide safety

Don’t wait until something stops working. Book your service with Tourer Tech Scotland and tour with confidence.

⚠️ Is your Alde heating fluid overdue? ⚠️

We recently changed the Alde heating fluid in this 10-year-old caravan. Despite being serviced every year at an AWS-approved workshop, the owner had never been advised that the heating fluid needed replacing.

The system still contained its original blue Alde fluid, which has a recommended service life of just two years.

Old or degraded fluid can lose its corrosion protection, potentially causing damage to the boiler, radiators and other components within the heating system.

If your caravan still has blue fluid—or you’re unsure when it was last changed—it’s worth having it checked.

📡 No Satellite Signal? It’s Not Always the Dish! 📺

We attended a customer’s TV that was showing no satellite signal.

After carrying out some diagnostics, we established that the satellite system itself wasn’t the problem — the TV required a software upgrade and an updated channel list.

After speaking directly with the manufacturer, we obtained the latest software, completed the update and got the TV back up and running! ✅

Another fault diagnosed and resolved by Tourer Tech Scotland. 🔧🚐

Sometimes it’s not about replacing parts — it’s about finding the right fault first.
