⚠️ THE BAD — Rusty brown or murky? That's usually just old coolant crying out for a change, or early signs of corrosion in the system. Not an emergency, but don't ignore it.

🚨 THE UGLY — Milky, frothy, like a strawberry milkshake gone wrong? That's oil and coolant mixing — and it's often one of the first signs of a blown head gasket. Other tell-tale signs to watch for:

🔹 White smoke from the exhaust
🔹 Engine overheating for no obvious reason

Wet cambelt intervals: It’s not always just mileage

One of the most common misunderstandings we see, is assuming cambelt replacement is only based on mileage. On many vehicles (especially those with wet belts), the service interval can be set by time as well as miles — meaning a low-mileage car can still be due purely because of age.

Why age matters (even if you “hardly drive it”)

A wet belt runs inside the engine oil. Over time, heat cycles, oil condition, short journeys, and infrequent servicing can all contribute to belt deterioration. So even if the odometer looks “safe”, the belt may still be reaching the end of its recommended lifespan.

The risk of leaving it too long

If a cambelt fails, it can cause serious engine damage. With wet belts, deterioration can also lead to debris in the oil system, which can create additional issues beyond the belt itself. In short: it’s not a job you want to gamble on.

What you should do:
- Check both the mileage and the age interval for your specific vehicle
- Make sure the car has had the correct oil and regular servicing (this matters a lot with wet belts)
