Rear bumper corner repair to an MG in RSJ Topspeed/Dynamic Red.
This is a 3 stage red very similar to Mazda 46v. These types of reds are becoming a lot more popular. They can be particularly difficult as they have a salmon pink base coat that is high metallic as a result of this it tends to travel very far through the panel when flicking it out to blend in. They then require the second stage which is a tinted clear coat (essentially a candy) with a dye in rather than a typical base coat tinter. This adds the depth of the red. This adds further difficulty as it is an effect coat that becomes a darker/deeper red with the more that is applied. The extra tricky party with this coat is that it is already applied to the existing finish on the panel that is being repaired/blended into. So, the extra coat of the tinted clear over an area of the panel that has not had any of the pink base coat applied darkens the existing finish compared to the area with fresh base coat - sometimes creating a darker edge highlighting the area that has been repaired This can end up being chased and some technicians prefer to simply edge to edge these colours but you then have the task of matching the adjacent panel perfectly.
All in all I'm very happy with the colour match, and also blends into the existing colour and effect of the tinted clear. I did not edge to edge this and chose to flick the colour and extended tinted clear into the existing effect to avoid any mismatch problems.
I have included a video of the two different colour stages to show the difference as I forgot to take in progress pictures.
