This is a video of a customer’s vehicle, from someone who trusted us to carry out their repair.

In the video you can see the alternator pulley being moved up and down and side to side. This movement shouldn’t be there at all. The pulley should sit solid with no play, so this shows the alternator bearings have worn or failed.

When there’s too much play, the belt can’t run straight, which leads to noises, belt wear, tensioner damage, and can eventually cause charging problems or belt failure.

Signs to watch out for:
• Rattling, grinding, or squealing noises
• Belt wobble or tensioner bouncing
• Battery warning light
• Repeated belt or tensioner failure
