This T5 was remapped almost a decade ago with no obvious ill effect until recently where it had started smoking under acceleration. Lots of parts changed and an egr fault was left to be the suspected culprit. We were booked to have a look.

The previous mapping was found to be a pretty basic effort and also had aggressive boost and fuel requests and although for 10 years all appeared well, after that many miles of use and engine wear it was now showing its true colours.

We wiped the old map and applied our mapping calibration. On the road test the smoke had disappeared.

Just goes to show, basic and poorly written remaps cause issues, sometimes not straight away but over time they'll be killing your engine from the inside 💀

Anyone remember the emissions scandal from a few years ago?

The "fix" offered by VW was a software update... unfortunately in many cases this led to lower mpg and EGR issues 🙄

We were absolutely inundated with requests to roll the software back to a version that predated this and we rolled back countless ecu's.

Its been a while since we've done one.. until we got a booking for this 2010 VW Passat a few days ago.

Sotware identified, a historic version sourced and flashed into the ecu.

Sorted. 😎
