🐻 A growling noise when changing gear?

Thankfully, there wasn’t a bear hiding under the bonnet—the clutch release bearing had completely failed!

A new release bearing was fitted along with a complete clutch kit. Everything was reassembled and tested, leaving the vehicle quiet and back on the road ✅

🏁 GOLF R REPAIR—DONE BY THE BOOK 🏁

This Golf R required a new thermal management unit, responsible for controlling coolant flow and helping the engine maintain the correct operating temperature 🌡️

Replacing the main unit is only part of doing the job properly. The repair was completed using a quality INA unit—an original-equipment manufacturer for Volkswagen—and carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s repair instructions:

✅ INA OE-quality thermal management unit
✅ All specified seals and gaskets renewed
✅ New bolts and associated parts where required
✅ Correct fitting sequence and torque settings
✅ Cooling system correctly refilled, bled and checked

⚠️ Don’t ignore your brake warning light!

This customer contacted me after their brakes developed a grinding noise. The brake warning had been showing on the dashboard and, by the time the vehicle was inspected, the pads had worn completely through to the metal.

Continuing to drive had also damaged the brake discs, turning what could have been a set of pads into a more expensive discs-and-pads replacement.

If a brake warning appears or you hear scraping or grinding, get it checked as soon as possible—it could save you a much larger repair bill.

🔧 Not every scraping noise means worn-out brake pads!

This customer reported a scraping noise from the rear of their vehicle. After investigation, the brake backing plates were found to be badly corroded and causing the noise.

New rear backing plates fitted, everything reassembled and checked, and the vehicle is now quiet again ✅

💡✨ Failed the MOT due to poor headlight output? Don't rush to replace them!

This vehicle failed its MOT because the headlights had become cloudy and oxidised, reducing the amount of light reaching the road. 🌫️

🔧 Stiff clutch? Don't ignore it! 🚗

This customer reported that the clutch pedal became very stiff after around 45 minutes of driving.

After diagnosing the fault, I found the clutch slave cylinder was failing once it got up to temperature, causing the pedal to become heavy and difficult to operate. ❌

✅ New slave cylinder fitted.
✅ Clutch hydraulics bled.
✅ Pedal operation restored and road tested.

If your clutch feels heavy, or isn't operating as it should, get it checked before you're left unable to change gear.

🔧⚠️ Battery warning light on the dash? It might not be the alternator!

This vehicle came in with the red battery light illuminated. After diagnosing the fault, I found the Torsional Vibration Damping (TVD) Crank Pulley had failed. The bonded rubber had separated, meaning the auxiliary belt could no longer drive the alternator properly. ❌🔋

✅ New crankshaft pulley fitted.
✅ Charging system tested.
✅ Back on the road.

If you've got warning lights, strange noises or vibrations, don't leave them too long—early diagnosis can save you money and prevent a breakdown. 🚗

I've been fitting a lot of clutches lately... is it the warm weather, or am I just too cheap? 🤔😂

Either way, this one was well past its best and was definitely due for replacement. New clutch fitted and back to smooth gear changes and happy motoring. 🚗💨

The timing belt is one of the most important service items on your engine. If it fails, the resulting damage can be extensive and expensive.
