It’s really unfortunate that I have to come on here and moan, again. But seems I have to continually explain how courtesy cars work.

We lend our courtesy cars to customers as and when they are available, but to get one you must ask when booking to have or otherwise I can’t guarantee one will be free. These cars tho come with rules…….

Must be returned with same amount of fuel it left with.
No smoking or animals in the car.
Cars must be returned as clean as they were.
Any damage must be paid for.
Max of 100miles a day.
Only the person it’s lent to can drive it.
All parking tickets and speeding fines will be taken by user.
Car must be returned as soon as your car is finished. (Within 24 hours)

In the past 8 months I’ve had to put in over £400 of fuel that hasn’t been replaced.
We’ve found ci******es in ashtrays and seats coveted in dog hair.
I’ve have to get our 4 cars cleaned inside and out more times I can remember. Not paid for.
3 of our cars have been damaged and not paid for.
One car did over 1000 miles in 3 days.
One customer lend our courtesy car to her neighbour to do a tip run with all his tree cuttings. Car was absolutely disgusting when returned and she thought that was ok.
Another customer wouldn’t return our car for over a week because it’s bigger than theirs and they were using it.
Our 4 cars have had 6 parking tickets and 5 speeding fines and all but 2 the customers thought they didn’t have to pay.

I think all this is pretty unacceptable, and to be honest having to repeatedly explain the conditions of use to adults is pretty draining. It’s no different to hiring a car except we don’t charge.

So from now on if these rules are not stuck to I’ll just charge to use the cars, they cost me a fair bit each year to maintain, tax, service and insure so additional costs that you agree to pay on use of the cars is just costing me way too much.

But some amazing customers have cleaned the cars, topped the fuel up more then they need to and looked after cars, so thank you to those people.

Last time I’ll explain.

Another stunning classic in for a fair bit of work. This lovely 1984 BMW E30 BAUR

Started off a good service and brake check.
Found both front callipers wouldn’t retract due to rusty pistons so had to source a new set from Germany, combines with new discs and pads with brake fluid change.

After a few tweaks, new temp and oil sensor she ran lovely again, all new fluids including auto trans fluid and diff oil. Such and easy car to work on and in amazing condition for being 42 years old.

Last little job was the electric windows didn’t work. After searching everywhere we couldn’t find new or used motors anywhere. So we stripped the motors out which had totally seized. Cleaned them out, found new phosphorus bronze bearings and rebuilt them, now working lovely.

Another busy week at SCP HQ. Had this mustang in for a running issue.

RAC said it was a poor air filter location, diagnostic said pre cat O2 sensors, but I wasn’t buying any of it.

So got out my diagnostic to run live data, readings all over the place which confirmed why I thought…… an air leak. So did a good old smoke test and there you go, within seconds smoke leaking from gasket under the manifold.
Stripped the inlet all off, new gaskets and sealed it back up. Now runs sweet and a nut.

Something we do a lot of is brakes. For obvious reasons we love to be able to stop and our insurance don’t like us crashing.

Well today we had to fog some discs and pads on a Ford transit, this customer got maximum usage out of these pads, hardly a slither of pad left. Sadly if he came in last week we probably could have saved the discs. But at least it’s safe to drive now.

Another day…. Another air con re gas, or so we thought.

This is a long one so strap in.

Ha this 2021 focus with under 11k on the clock come in with air con not working, just a simple re gas we thought, well I was wrong.
Get it strapped to the machine, get in on cycle to suck out the gas, vacuum test and sq**rt in new gas…... well that where the problems started.

Yo see, this focus takes 480g of gas to fill it up, we managed to suck out 810g, that’s almost double what should be in there. Crazy times.
After it did its thing, start the car, no compressor running. Damn.
So onto test. Plug In diagnostic, nothing, won’t communicate with the system, so onto manual testing.
Check fuses, all lovey, check power to compressor and zero. So get the power probe out, give the compressor some power and it kicks in, no cold air but clutch works…result.
Something isn’t right, test the pressure switch, all good, but still no communication with air con system.
So test earths, all good, test everything 2,3,4 times still no power.
This has me scratching my head. So chatting to customer he mentions it’s only done few hundred miles the year, and needs a way to keep it charged, that’s when it hit me, it goes flat??? Let’s look at the battery. Brand new (5 month old) battery fitted by main dealer. So I run a proper battery test, only 33% charged. This can’t be right, it’s brand new. So test the alternator, literally trickling power in, not good.
So I have another brain wave, these smart charge battery monitoring systems are very sensitive, I wonder……….. and I wondered correctly. The dealer fitted a new battery, but didn’t code it in so it was charging the new battery as if it was old old buggered one.
So I code battery in and bosh I get communication with the air con system, fault for pressure sensor (not surprising as it had almost double the gas) I clear the codes, fire the beast up and the compressor clicks into action., 5 sections later I’m sat in the car freezing my knackers off.

Just goes to show, never assume because it’s warm it just needs gas.
Never assume the person (dealer) that fixed it before you did it properly.
Never assume that plugging into a diagnostic will find the fault, nothing replaces good old testing and fault finding.

Had this little fiesta rally car in for some MOT work this week.
Wrapped different on both sides makes it stand out pretty well and a 200bhp NA 1.6 bolted to a sequential gearbox makes it go the part too.,

Another week another classic J*p car.

This week a lovely 1998 Toyota Celica convertible. Think I’ve only ever seen a handful of these.
This one cane in for an oil service, new centre exhaust section and a front flexi section made by titan_exhausts_ltd.
Such a nice car to drive, very smooth for a car that was built in my last year at primary school, definitely aged better too

Had this old Italian run about in this week for a few little mods.

Our sister company titan_exhausts_ltd removed some horrific sounding after market exhaust and modded a stick valved system to sound even better and quiet when you need it which is what the customer wanted. Then we did a few other little bits to get it all back together and back on the streets.

A 360 looks great, but a Pearl blue manual 360 is just the best. Stunning

Now just look at this……….

A kandy red, Pandem kitted E30. I can honestly say you don’t see many off these knocking around.

Another round of MOT work. Few little bits and to finish off we modded the headlight mounts to take some custom LED units from a motorbike. Looks great, this will definitely be back for more.

But just look at it 😍😍
