This week we’ve got Genevieve in the blasting tunnel.

Once the blasting is complete, she’ll be having a little welding work before we get busy preparing the hull for a full two-pack epoxy treatment.

NB Peace has been out of the water for some major hull work, including over-plating the uxter plate in 6mm steel. It was a challenging job that required the steering system to be completely rebuilt.

With the steelwork complete, the new uxter plate has been protected with a two-pack coating, and the remainder of the hull has been freshly blacked.

She's now nearly ready for relaunch and back on the cut.

A little update on one of the projects that has been keeping us busy in the boatyard recently.

Caraway originally came to us for grit blasting and the renewal of a number of skin fittings. However, once the hull had been blasted and fully inspected, it became apparent that further work was required.

The following works have been undertaken:

- Grit blasted the base plate and hull sides back to bare steel.
- Overplated sections of the swims where required.
- Carried out pit welding to areas affected by corrosion.
- Straightened the rudder.
- Fitted a new rudder top bearing and rudder cup.
- Welded sections of the baseplate seams.
- Needle-gunned and prepared the gas lockers.
- Applied a two-pack epoxy coating to the gas lockers.
- Applied a full two-pack epoxy blacking system to the hull.

The hull has now been blacked and attention has turned to the topsides. We are currently priming above the top guard before applying a matt black gunwale paint, which provides a traditional finish and makes future touch-ups much simpler.

Zodiac | £39,950

Built in 1936 by W.J. Yarwood & Sons for the Grand Union Canal Carrying Company, Zodiac is a rare full-length “Middle Northwich” motor.

She retains her original riveted cabin together with her rounded chines (3/8") and V-bottomed hull (1/4"). An 18ft 6in extension cabin has been added to provide further accommodation, with the remaining 30ft hold area covered by traditional cloths.
