⭐️ Happy Customer = Happy Friday! ⭐️

This customer came to us with their engine management light on. After diagnosing the fault, it was showing as an EGR issue – something that can often mean a bill of around £600 😳

But we don’t stop at the first answer. After carrying out further checks, we traced the problem back to a broken wire 🔧

A simple repair later and the issue was resolved – saving our customer a lot of money 💰

🔧 Great news to finish the week — and a very happy customer! 🔧

Today we had a VW Scirocco back in with us — a previous customer who we recently carried out a clutch replacement for.

The customer later experienced an issue that felt like a clutch or gearbox fault and had a local garage near their home take a look, at a cost of over £100, where they were advised that the clutch AND gearbox were completely ruined internally and both needed replacing.

They booked back in with us to carry out the work.
We ordered a replacement gearbox and stripped everything down.

Here’s the important part 👇
After removing and bench testing the gearbox, we found no fault whatsoever with it. The gearbox itself was perfectly fine.

The issue?
👉 The clutch had failed catastrophically.

The good news:
✅ The clutch failure is being covered fully under warranty
✅ The customer has paid nothing further
✅ The gearbox is being returned to the manufacturer
✅ The customer is back on the road with no unnecessary work carried out

We’re sharing this to show the importance of proper diagnosis and not replacing expensive parts unless they genuinely need it. Sometimes the fault isn’t what it first appears to be.

🚗 You honestly couldn’t make this up…

Today we were absolutely shocked.

We ordered an EGR cooler from Nissan at a cost of over £700, only to find it did NOT include the gasket required to fit it.

No problem, right?
Wrong.

The gasket had to be ordered separately… at an extra £50 — for a small, basic gasket that would normally cost just a few pounds.

This isn’t a high-tech component.
It’s not complex.
It’s a gasket.

We’re sharing this to make the public aware of just how unreal parts prices have become, especially from main dealers. Customers often think garages are exaggerating or inflating prices — but the reality is, some of the costs we’re now facing are genuinely hard to believe.

We’ll be showing the full invoice and the actual part so you can see for yourselves.

We’re not posting this to point fingers — just to highlight the current state of the motor trade and why repair costs are rising across the board.

🔧 Another behind-the-scenes repair at Alan Watkins Motor Repairs 🔧

This 2022 Audi Q2 1.5 TFSI was recovered to us after the customer reported the vehicle overheated and would not restart.

🔍 Our diagnosis:
The root cause was a failed thermostat, which led to overheating and ultimately meant a head gasket replacement was required.

🛠️ Work being carried out:
✅ Head gasket replacement
✅ New cambelt
✅ New water pump
✅ New thermostat (original fault identified and corrected)

📦 Parts & standards:
All parts have been sourced directly from TPS (main dealer supply), and all work is being completed strictly to manufacturer specifications, including correct torque settings and procedures throughout.

This is a perfect example of why correct diagnosis matters — fixing the cause, not just the symptom. It also shows the level of care and attention that goes into every major repair we take on.
