Frequently Asked Questions
Ice Blasting & Underbody Protection
1. Why dry ice blasting instead of pressure washing?
Dry ice blasting uses frozen CO₂ pellets to remove dirt, grime and built-up contaminants without introducing water or leaving moisture behind. Unlike pressure washing, it avoids forcing water into electrical components, seams and cavities, making it an excellent choice for detailed underbody cleaning and preparation before protective coatings are applied.
2. How long will you need my vehicle?
We typically require 3–4 days to complete the process. This allows us time to remove the necessary trims and wheels, thoroughly clean the underside, assess any corrosion, apply the selected protective coating and complete our final checks.
3. What coatings do you offer?
We offer two protective coating options to suit different requirements and budgets. These prices are for cars and small vans please enquire for vans and Motorhomes.
Mipa Black Stone Chip – £1,200 + VAT
Mipa Black Stone Chip provides a durable protective finish designed to help protect the underside against stone chips, road debris and everyday wear. It creates a tough black coating that helps shield vulnerable areas from the elements.
Dinitrol 4941 – £1,400 + VAT
Dinitrol 4941 is a specialist corrosion-prevention underbody coating designed to provide long-term protection against moisture, road salt and rust. It forms a protective, wax-based film that helps prevent corrosion and is particularly suited to vehicles where underbody preservation is a priority.
The best option depends on your vehicle’s condition, intended use and long-term protection goals.
4. Is my car too old for dry ice blasting? Will it cause damage?
No vehicle is automatically too old for dry ice blasting. The process is non-abrasive when carried out correctly and is suitable for many classic, modern and performance vehicles.
However, if metal has become severely corroded and extremely thin, cleaning may reveal existing weaknesses or holes that were previously hidden beneath dirt, underseal or rust. This doesn’t mean the blasting has caused the corrosion; it has helped expose the true condition of the metal so that any issues can be identified and assessed.
5. Why should I add cavity protection?
Many areas of a vehicle’s bodywork contain enclosed sections, seams and cavities where moisture and condensation can collect, allowing corrosion to develop out of sight.
Our optional cavity protection uses Dinitrol 1000 cavity wax, which is applied inside accessible cavities to create a protective, moisture-repelling film. It helps protect vulnerable internal metalwork and seams from corrosion in areas that cannot be protected by an external underbody coating alone.
Cavity protection is an important addition for anyone looking to preserve their vehicle for the long term, particularly classic, cherished or regularly driven vehicles.
6. How much does it cost?
Our underbody dry ice blasting and protection packages start at:
* Mipa Black Stone Chip: £1,200 + VAT (£1,440 including VAT at 20%)
* Dinitrol 4941: £1,400 + VAT (£1,680 including VAT at 20%)
The Dinitrol option is more expensive due to the specialist coating system and the additional material and application requirements involved. It is designed specifically for underbody corrosion prevention, making it an excellent choice for owners prioritising long-term preservation.
If additional cleaning, repairs or corrosion-related work is identified during the process, we will contact you with our recommendations and an estimate before proceeding with any additional work.
