The 300CD Turbo Diesel remains one of the most usable and enjoyable W123 models ever produced.

Built exclusively for the North American market, the combination of the pillarless coupe body and legendary OM617 turbo diesel engine makes for a remarkably capable long-distance car. Very few classics cover miles with such ease.

Offered on behalf of a customer located in Spain, this particular example is a car we know well. During 2022–2023 it underwent extensive work with us at W123 World, with significant expenditure invested into both its mechanical and cosmetic condition.

Following completion, I personally drove the car from the UK to Spain. It was one of those journeys that reminds you exactly what these cars were built for. Effortless cruising and complete confidence over long distances.

The car remains in Spain today registered on Historic plates and is now being offered for sale by its owner.

For someone with a home on the continent, or simply looking for a left-hand-drive W123 Coupe to enjoy as intended, it presents an interesting opportunity.

This car really represents strong value for money when compared to the cost of restoring a similar car today. A W123 Coupe restored to this standard would comfortably exceed £35,000 and that’s not to mention the time and effort involved in finding the right starting point.

If the car is of interest, please get in touch and we will happily put you directly in contact with the owner.

Priced sensibly at €20,000.00

We get quite a few messages asking what to look for when buying a W123.

And the honest answer is — it’s not as simple as a quick checklist.

A lot of the important stuff isn’t obvious unless you’ve spent time around these cars:
how they rust, where they hold moisture, what’s normal vs what isn’t mechanically.

It’s one of those things where a bit of knowledge can save a lot of money.

We’re putting together something a bit more in-depth around it — something you can actually use when viewing a car or going through your own!

Is this something that interests many of you?

Old Mercedes adverts are the best!

No nonsense, no trying too hard — just confidence in what the car is.

“It’s the safest place to put your money, too.”

Back then they meant it in terms of safety and build quality… but looking at it now, it almost reads like an investment pitch.

Which raises a fair question—

Is the S123 actually one of the safest places to put your money going into 2026 and beyond?

We’ve seen the shift already. Estates that were once overlooked are now the most sought after. The good ones are hard to find, expensive to restore and even harder to replace once done properly.

But where does it go from here?

Do values keep climbing as fewer solid cars remain?

Choosing the Right Classic Mercedes!

Why waiting is usually the right decision.

One of the biggest mistakes buyers make is rushing into the wrong car.

It’s easy to get carried away when something looks right on the surface. A smart colour combination, tidy paintwork or a clean interior can quickly distract from what really matters.

But with a W123 and many classic mercedes, buying the wrong car can be an expensive mistake. More often than not, it ends up costing far more in the long run than simply waiting and buying a properly sorted example in the first place.

Then there’s the time. Getting an poorly sorted car to the standard you really want can take years, and what starts as excitement can slowly turn into frustration. The enjoyment of ownership can be lost chasing one issue after another.

That’s why we always say: buy the best you can. Tomorrow isn’t promised, and there is no such thing as a cheap Mercedes.

The Illusion of “Good Ones”

The W123 Market: Why Photos Mean Very Little

One of the biggest misconceptions we see is that a W123 can be judged properly from a handful of photos.

Straight panels, shiny paint and a clean interior will often convince people they’re looking at a “good car.” In reality, that tells you very little about how the car actually is underneath or how it drives.

We regularly see cars that present well but fall short where it matters:

•Structural corrosion in key areas
•Tired drivetrains
•Vacuum and electrical systems partially working
•Aged braking systems and fuel delivery issues

The truth is, the differences between an average W123 and a properly sorted one are only found with a proper inspection of common issues.

It’s why knowledge matters more than ever in today’s market.

Why the S123 Has Quietly Become the One to Watch

For years, the W123 Wagon/ S123 sat low in classic enthusiasts desirability.

Not anymore.

The S123 has become one the most sought-after W123 variants, and for good reason:

• Most were used hard as working cars.
• Very few survived in genuinely good condition.
• Restoration costs are significantly higher.
• An iconic wagon design.

What you’re seeing now is the result of that.

The market isn’t just valuing the car anymore—it values how difficult it is to find a proper one or get one put right.

That’s why the gap between an average estate and a top example is so wide.

And it’s only getting wider.

This is the time of year you’re reminded why we all love classic car ownership

The roads are drying out, the salt’s mostly gone and you start to see them coming back out again. However people choose to use them, this is the season where they just feel right

You start to notice the little things again. The quirks and the usual petrol station conversations that come with classic car ownership.

The well sorted cars feel tight, drive properly, everything working as it should. Others might look great in photos but don’t quite live up to it once you’re behind the wheel

We see it every year. Early spring is when people start paying attention again. Either getting their own car ready or starting the search for one

If you’ve got one tucked away, now’s the time to get it out and go through it properly ahead of summer. They always reward the owners who stay on top of them

And if you’re looking for one, it’s worth taking your time. The right cars are always out there
