🎉Congratluations to Tom who passed his driving test bright and early this morning 🎉

Just the 2 driving faults for Tom which were at the very end of his test when reverse bay parking back at the test centre 👏

First test in the new car and first pass, long may it continue 😅

Best of luck with your driving Tom and good luck with your car shopping 👍

Look at this map of Chester Road next to Hastings Hill. A map of incidents from minor to fatal and then try to convince me there isn't a problem down here with peoples driving 🤔

Did you know, the examiner on your driving test is also looking for you to demonstrate your knowledge of the highway code through your driving...meaning if you don't understand signs or markings, you can't deal with them which in turn can be dangerous.

Instead of trying to remember the answers to the multiple choice questions, try to understand what the shapes of signs mean, what the different colours of the signs mean. This will help you when driving as you will know what the signs are actually trying to tell you.

Look how close these vans are 😵

For some context, the van infront was going very slow down the slip road and the van behind was up its 🍑. Me and the lorry moved across to allow them to merge safely.

2 dangerous things combined. Keeping your distance could save yours or someone elses life. Getting upto the relevant speed and using the slip roads (acceleration lane) makes it easier and safer for you to merge in.

Keeping a safe distance from the vehicle in front prevents serious crashes from happening.

Something so basic and controllable but drivers don't seem to care until its too late.

Dry road = 2 second gap minimum

Wet road = 4 second gap minimum

Icy road = 10x the normal distance

P.s I'm not going to post the video for a number of reasons. 1. I'm not trying to shame or judge anyones driving, my intention is to help educate not punish. 2. The logos of the company were all over the van.

Give way markings don't mean give way to your right...

Give way markings mean give way to ANY traffic on the major road. Meaning traffic coming from any direction. The only rule where you give way to the right is at roundabouts.

For example at this T-Junction there are double give way markings. Which means give way to ANY traffic on the major (main) road. Not just to your right.

Alot of drivers get confused with this and think they only need to give way from the right at junctions with give way lines, this isn't correct.

Roundabouts = Give way to your right

Double give way markings = Give way to traffic on the major road

Coming from Neville Road going ahead towards St Lukes Road 👇

You should be giving way to traffic coming from both directions not just traffic coming from the right (Merle Terrace).

Traffic coming from the left down St Lukes Terrace that are following the road round often move straight over into that right lane.

Now of course, if you are coming from this way you should check its safe to move over but quite often drivers coming from Neville Road just come flying out the junction with 0 awareness of the traffic coming from St Lukes Terrace.

Are you a manual driving instructor covering Sunderland?

I'm looking for 1 manual instructor to join me at Sunderland Driving. The reason being I am getting quite a lot of enquiries that I can realistically deal with on my own.

This isn't some grand plan to build a huge driving school and make loads of dosh. There's 0 contracts and I'm well aware that most intructors eventually want to go on their own - something I'd happily assist with if that was your future plans.

Sunderland Driving has and will always be about providing good quality, relaxed driving lessons with a focus on helping learners become safe, confident drivers.

If you're already teaching in Sunderland and fancy a chat about working together, drop me a message 😁

No sales pitch. None of these silly expensive fees and contracts. Just a chat to see how we could work together.

Doing my monthly Priestman Roundabout video and when I was talking about being aware of cars in the left lane cutting across and not reading the signs properly, a taxi cut across from the left to the middle lane to go towards Tunstall.

It happens, we all know it does. Hence why in the video I speak about observations and expect it to happen.

Mistakes happen. Impatience happens. Having no awareness happens. What you can control though is your own awareness and anticipate that other drivers won't do things correct all the time.

This isn't to ridicule the taxi driver, its to show you need to anticipate this happening and you'll be less surprised and safer when it does 😁

You need to learn the theory behind driving to become a better driver

The theory test is just 1 part of your driving test. If you don't understand the theory behind what you see on the roads, then there is a higher chance you could fail your driving test or do something dangerous.

If there are signs or markings you don't understand when driving about, then you will not know how to correctly deal with them.

This is why when learning to drive you should also look about for signs, putting them into context normally makes it easier to understand.

This junction on Stockton Road in Ryhope can be a tricky one for learner drivers

You need to get into the turn box when turning right, but need to follow the bend of the road to the left so you don't effect the oncoming traffic coming round the bend.

Visibility isn't that great either so slow down and give yourself enough time to steer correctly into the box and to properly check for oncoming traffic.
