🚔 Speed enforcement often divides opinion, but officers say the focus has always been on saving lives. 🚓

Some people ask why time is spent enforcing speed limits. The answer is simple – reducing deaths and serious injuries on the roads. Excess speed is a factor in more than half of all fatal collisions, and removing that risk can prevent crashes or reduce their severity. ❤️🛣️

Others ask why officers aren't arresting criminals instead. The reality is they do both. In June alone, the team made 114 arrests, including domestic abusers, vehicle thieves, violent offenders and drink and drug drivers. Many criminals rely on the road network, making proactive traffic policing a vital tool in tackling crime. 👮🚔

Questions are also raised about potholes, but repairing roads is not a policing responsibility. Officers say the main causes of serious collisions remain poor driving, speeding and inattention behind the wheel. ⚠️

Speed checks near roadworks are another common criticism. However, the fact that drivers continue to speed through these areas highlights exactly why enforcement is needed. Road workers deserve a safe place to do their jobs. 🚧👷

There is also a misconception that speed enforcement is about making money. Fixed penalties do not fund police perks or social events. Any funds allocated to policing are used to support road safety initiatives and equipment that helps keep the public safe. 💷🚓

Officers say speed enforcement will continue to be a key part of roads policing because its aim is straightforward – protecting lives and making the roads safer for everyone. 🙌🚗
