🍂 Hello, September!🍂

There’s something rather special about cruising at this time of year. The waterways grow a little quieter, mist drifts across the water on cooler mornings and the first hints of autumn begin to appear along the banks.

Look out for hedgerows heavy with blackberries, rosehips and bright red haws; swallows gathering before their long journey south; kingfishers darting across the water; and reeds and trees slowly turning shades of gold.

There may still be plenty of warm sunshine to enjoy, but with shorter days and the occasional autumn shower, remember to pack an extra layer and keep those waterproofs close by!

Where will the waterways take you this September? ⚓

There’s nothing quite like summer on the water. 🌞 Cruising along peaceful canals and rivers, exploring hidden corners of the countryside, and soaking up the sunshine from your deck. It’s the perfect time to enjoy the freedom of life on a boat.

But as the days grow shorter, have you thought about where your boat will spend the winter? 🌨️

We won’t sugarcoat it - winter on a boat can be tough. Cold snaps, frozen canals, damp conditions, and limited access to facilities can make life aboard challenging. And when you're back on land, leaving your boat unattended on the towpath during the off season can expose it to unnecessary risks.

That’s why winter moorings matter.

At our marinas, we offer secure, fully serviced winter mooring options designed to protect your boat through the colder months. With electricity, water, on-site facilities, and a friendly marina community, you’ll have peace of mind knowing your boat is in safe hands.

Spaces are limited, so don’t wait until the frost arrives. Enquire today!

Everyone asks how cold a narrowboat gets in winter… but no one really talks about how hot they can get in summer! ☀️😅

When the sun’s been beating down on that steel roof all day, it can get pretty warm on board.

So, here are 5 simple ways to keep things a bit cooler when the temperature starts to climb. If you’ve got any tried and tested tricks of your own, pop them in the comments 👇

If you're wondering where to head for a relaxing trip on the water from Great Haywood Marina, we'd always recommend a cruise to Fradley Junction.

Leaving the marina, you'll cruise through the beautiful Trent Valley, passing the grounds of Shugborough Estate before winding your way through peaceful countryside towards one of the canal network's best-loved junctions. It's a route that's full of wildlife, open views and those quiet moments that make a day on the cut so special.

Once you arrive at Fradley Junction, there are plenty of opportunities to moor nearby, watch the boats negotiate the locks, enjoy a drink or a bite to eat, and simply soak up the atmosphere.

It's a full but comfortable trip, with around five to six hours of cruising and five locks each way, making it ideal if you're looking for a little adventure.

Of course, one of the best things about Great Haywood is that every direction offers something different. Whether you're heading towards Fradley, Stone, or along the beautiful Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal, there's always another stretch of water waiting to be explored.

Where's your favourite day cruise from Great Haywood Marina? We'd love to hear your recommendations in the comments. 🚤💙

As the days grow shorter and the temperatures begin to drop, there's nothing quite like having a marina you can settle down in.

Our winter moorings offer a safe, welcoming place to stay throughout the colder months, with everything you need close at hand to make life on the water comfortable and enjoyable. From hot showers and laundry facilities to electric hook-up, fuel, pump-out services and well-stocked chandleries, you'll find all the essentials waiting for you. Many of our marinas also have on-site cafés and eateries, perfect for warming up with a hot drink and catching up with fellow boaters.

With a choice of beautiful marina locations across the UK, you can settle in for winter knowing you're well looked after.

Winter moorings are now available, but spaces are limited. Get in touch today to find your perfect berth. ⚓❄️

One of the joys of boating is never knowing what you'll see around the next bend.

Kingfishers, herons, dragonflies, swans, ducks... and if you're lucky, even an otter. 🦆🦦

What's the best wildlife sighting you've had while out on the water this summer?
