Driving Test Changes:

From the 31st March 2026:

Tests can only be changed a maximum of 2 times down from the original 6

From the 12th May 2026:

No one other than learner drivers will lawfully be able to book or manage a car driving test. This will mean all cancellation apps and other services that book on behalf of pupils will be made useless and should not be used at risk of breach and losing out on money.

A learner declaration will be introduced when booking a test to confirm that the person booking will be taking the test and there will be a new set of terms and conditions to be agreed to.

From the 9th June 2026:

Tests will only be able to be moved to your 3 nearest test centres to where the original test has been booked.

It’s been announced today the new changes to the driving test coming from the 24th November so next Monday, have a little read and all my pupils will be made aware during lessons of the small changes.

We’re making some subtle but meaningful changes to the practical driving test. 🚗

You may have seen that we have been trialling changes to the driving test at 20 driving test centres.

As part of the trial, learners drove on routes containing more high-speed, rural roads during their driving test, where location allowed. Now, we are rolling out the changes to all driving test centres in Great Britain from 24 November 2025.

As well as increasing the amount of time spent on higher-speed roads, we are:

✅ reducing the number of stops during the test from 4 to 3
✅ lowering the frequency of emergency stop exercises from 1 in 3 tests to 1 in 7
✅ adding flexibility to the independent driving segment, allowing it to run for the full duration of the test

These changes are designed to help improve road safety by better replicating the conditions motorists face in the real world. They won’t affect the skills needed to take a driving test.

Good Morning,

Over recent years more and more “driving instructors” have been operating illegally without having a valid licence to teach. When you get into a car with an instructor they must legally be displaying a green octagonal badge or a red triangular badge in the window.

If no badge is displayed then that “driving instructor” cannot legally take any payment for the lesson. If you’re unsure before paying for a lesson, any valid instructor would happily show you their licence before.

I’ve had quite a few people over the last year or two come to me from people claiming to be instructors or having been just scammed out of payment from the start.

Law Enforcement and DVSA are now actively pulling over learner drivers to check for these valid licences and that the car being driven is fully safe to be learning in. So as a learner don’t be afraid if you are being pulled over by the police/dvsa, they are just routine checks!

To help combat this, stricter fines and now jail sentences have been introduced to those caught teaching illegally.

When booking lessons don’t ever be afraid to fact check who you are booking lessons with before payment, any driving instructor will happily prove they are licenced and safe to teach.
