Rover P5 3 Ltr / P5B PAS box news.
And a word of caution to all owners using other PAS box specialists.
A few weeks ago we received one of only a few boxes to be returned to us for a new rebuild. This particular box was last rebuilt by our PAS engineer (ex-Hydrosteer) 31 years ago in 1995! This is testament to his knowledge, skill and dedication to rebuilding these boxes to the highest of standards for us. On a note of caution we are coming across many boxes being ruined by being rebuilt incorrectly without any power steering knowledge or the necessary engineering skills to rebuild and test these highly complex boxes. Recently a LHD box was sent in that looked brand new but was a complete mess inside with the use of 3x ‘O’ rings jammed on top of each other instead of the correct 3 lip PTFE seal mounted in a Nulip to allow for eccentricity. Luckily there were not many other bodges inside which normally result in a good spare box needing to be cannibalised to make one good box which is very undesirable as one day there will be no more spare boxes left.
If you have had any boxes rebuilt recently by another company and the box is already faulty or leaking, then we would recommend that you inform the P5 Club so other owners can be forewarned and to protect these boxes from being ruined.
