🔧 Common Nissan Juke 1.5 dCi DPF Issue

This Juke came in with DPF problems and excessively high back pressure.

One common issue on these engines is the small metal exhaust/turbo pressure sensor pipe blocking solid with carbon. Because the ECU relies on this pressure reading to correctly control and monitor the turbo, EGR and DPF system, a blocked pipe can cause incorrect readings, poor performance and contribute to DPF/regeneration problems.

Ours was completely carboned up.

Cleaning method wasn’t exactly in the Nissan handbook… guitar string on a drill 😂 Slowly worked through the metal pipe until all the carbon was cleared. Not conventional, but it works!

The DPF was then properly cleaned and the difference speaks for itself:

Before cleaning
❌ Soot: 29g
❌ Back pressure: 157 mbar @ 2700rpm

After cleaning
✅ Soot: 4g
✅ Back pressure: 21 mbar @ 2700rpm

A good reminder that a DPF fault doesn’t always mean it just needs a new DPF. Finding why it’s blocked in the first place is just as important. 🔧

When was your car last serviced? 👀🔧

Regular servicing is one of the easiest ways to keep your car reliable, catch problems early and avoid bigger bills further down the line.

As a good rule of thumb, we recommend servicing every 6–7,000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first. Higher-mileage, performance, modified and hard-driven cars can benefit from even shorter intervals.
