1% BATTERY HEALTH?! 😳 That’s one tired battery! 🪫

We’ve seen some poorly batteries over the years, but this one is definitely ready for retirement! 😂

A healthy battery is essential, especially as we head into the colder months. ❄️

Just look at these test results! 👀

Battery health: 1% 😬

State of charge: 35%

Starting power: Just 57 CCA out of the rated 760 CCA!

That means this battery is delivering less than 8% of its original rated starting power!

And here’s something worth knowing… just because your battery is showing over 12 volts doesn’t mean it’s healthy!

A battery can still show a reasonable voltage but have very little power left to actually start your engine.

As temperatures drop, struggling batteries tend to show themselves, often on the coldest morning when you’ve got somewhere important to be! 🥶

There’s worn brake pads… and then there’s THESE! 😳🔧

We think it’s safe to say these brake pads have definitely earned their retirement! 😂

And while your brakes might still appear to be working, that doesn’t mean they’re safe!

⚠️ Worn brake pads can:
🔧 Significantly reduce braking performance.
🔧 Cause damage to your brake discs.
🔧 Increase stopping distances.
🔧 Turn a relatively straightforward repair into a much more expensive one if they damage the calliper!

They say you never forget your first love…

But what about your first car? 😂

Was it your pride and joy, polished every weekend and treated like a Ferrari?

Or was it a £500 rust bucket that needed a prayer every time you turned the key? 🤣

My first proper car which Dan absolutely loved fixing was a silver 308 which cost me £1000 and spent a fair bit on recovery trucks 😂

Dans was a blue 2000 Corsa (explains him to a T) which he paid £1200 for it when it was 7 year old. Defiantly can’t do that now 😂

The job that caused the chaos!

If you’ve seen our eye posts yesterday, this is the job that caused it 👁️

We done a clutch and flywheel on this transporter. They aren’t small jobs, was a full day with subframe and gearbox removal, new 3 piece clutch and flywheel before building it back together. We did have an issue when the ball joint thread stripped, but we were able to get a replacement put on and the job completed that day as planned. And at some point having some visitors stuck in the eye, but it got done with a squint 😂

We are also very grateful for the club next door for allowing us to use their car park rather than navigate the customers drive which is on a bank 🙏

We are happy to report Dans eye is much better and he is back out today to catch up on some of the jobs we had to rearrange yesterday 🚐

👀🔧 UPDATE: THE ONE-EYED MECHANIC IS ON THE MEND!

Following another 2 hours at the eye clinic today, we’re pleased to report that Dan is on the mend! SEVEN bits of debris have now been removed from Dan’s eye (because apparently one just wasn’t enough! 🤦‍♀️)

Thankfully, he’s got away with just needing some eye ointment for the next few days, his eye is already feeling better with his little friends removed, and he’s been given the all-clear to drive again! 🚐

We’re just hoping Dan has learnt that his eyeballs are not an appropriate place to store spare car bits! 😂

And one final request from me…

If any of our customers spot him getting underneath a car without his safety glasses on, you’ve got my full permission to give him a kick up the backside! Or atleast remind him it involves needles near his eyes to get the bits back out 😂🦵

Clearly, me nagging him isn’t enough, so I’m recruiting you all to help! 🤣

On a serious note, a massive thank you again to everyone who has been so understanding about rearranged bookings. We genuinely appreciate your patience.

🔧👀 Well, That’s Not Quite How We Planned Our Friday! 😂

We just wanted to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who has been so understanding about us having to rearrange today’s bookings! ❤️

Unfortunately, yesterday Dan decided that having two working eyes was overrated and managed to get some debris in one while working on a vehicle. 🤦‍♀️

This resulted in a lovely unexpected trip to A&E, finally getting home at 3am this morning. Not exactly a romantic late-night outing 😂

Unfortunately, his eye is still extremely sore and painful today, and he’s currently down to one good eye. 👁️

Now, whilst I can drive the van and get him to jobs, we decided that sending a mechanic out who’s only operating with 50% of his usual vision probably isn’t our brightest business decision! 😂

Joking aside, safety will always come first. The last thing we want is for Dan to hurt himself further, damage someone’s vehicle or put anyone at risk because he’s trying to soldier on.

In the two years since opening, this is actually the first time we’ve ever had to rearrange nearly an entire day’s bookings like this, so it’s not a decision we’ve made lightly.

With the possibility of another trip to hospital today, we’ve decided it’s best to give him a chance to recover rather than risk making things worse.

We know people arrange their days around us coming out, and we genuinely hate letting anyone down, so we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who’s been so lovely and understanding. ❤️

Hopefully, Dan will be back to having two functioning eyes in the next day or 2!

In the meantime, I think we’ll be adding “keep foreign objects out of your eyeballs” to the workplace health and safety briefing! 😂

Thank you again for your patience and for supporting our little family business. It really does mean a lot!

Well the weather is turning 🥶

Thankfully yesterday we had a nice morning of 2 MOT’s. 1 pass and 1 fail on a spring which has already got the repair and retest booked back in 💪

We then had some upper control arms to replace on this RS4 as the bushes were perished. But doing what VAG does best, we knew that the death bolts would probably cause us issues. And yes that’s what they are known as because they seize, snap and become the death of your day 😂 but we knew that and so had new ones ready. 1 came off okay, the other one kept up its reputation and needed some persuasion shall we say. But we got it done! 👍

All done without the customers having to leave their home 🏠

Headlight Replacement 💡

The customer needed a replacement headlight unit, but to actually get it out and replace it properly meant removing the front bumper to gain access. 🔧

With the front end stripped down, we removed the old headlight, fitted the replacement unit and then put everything carefully back together. 👌

It’s jobs like this that show why the labour involved isn’t always obvious. You may think it’s just afew screws but on a lot of cars now it’s becoming less straight forward! 😂

Another job completed right on the customer’s driveway — no need to arrange getting the car to and from a garage. 🚗🔧
