IMPORTANT MESSAGE:

THE TIME HAS COME - WE ARE CLOSING DOWN

This is written with a very heavy heart but sadly time has caught up with me.

As I approach my 69th birthday and not in the best of health I have decided I can no longer ignore my family's wishes and have decided to call it a day.

For the last year I have attempted to find a suitable “proprietor” to take over the running of the business - but sadly have had no success.

This is perhaps not too surprising as the last 3 years can only be described as hellish and a constant battle to keep going for ourselves and countless other small businesses. The fact we have lasted so long is down to you - our customers. Your continued support has been nothing short of fantastic and both myself and the team would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you.

Mostly I would like to thank the great team I have had around me for many years. Mark - Andy - Janet and Joanne - my bookkeeper. I cannot find enough words to thank them for their service - commitment - loyalty and understanding.

Finally, I would like to thank our suppliers - their support over many years has been invaluable.

So in the words of my dear old Mam

Due to Holidays and Medical Absences, we need to amend our opening hours approaching and over the Christmas and New Year Period.

Here are the Details:
Workshop Closed

Friday 9th December
Thursday 15th December
Friday 16th December
Thursday 22nd December
Friday 23rd December

PLEASE NOTE FOR WORKING DAYS IN BETWEEN THESE DATES WE WILL ONLY BE DEALING WITH MOT TESTING AND WHEREVER POSSIBLE ANY CONSEQUENTIAL REPAIR WORK
We will then be closed over the Christmas and New Year period commencing 23rd December and re-opening on Tuesday 3rd January 2023.

In order to keep any inconvenience to a minimum JANET on reception will be contacting those customers who have MOTs due over this period to see if we can arrange alternative dates. To help with this JANET and I will make ourselves available on the days the Workshop is closed - so PLEASE do call us – leave a message and we will do our very best to get back to you.
I do appreciate this will not be ideal for everyone and for that I do apologise.

I have never known a market like this one. Not only have prices of used cars gone through the roof – finding anything decent has become a nightmare. As ever there is some real dross about – the sort of stock I have absolutely no interest in.

So being given the opportunity to get this Honda Jazz is something to cheer for. It came about because a lady I sold a car to some years ago told a friend we were a decent outfit to deal with when she was looking for a buyer for her elderly relative’s car.

Immediately I saw it I knew it was a “Goldilocks Car – Just right” It comes with Full-Service History – 12 in total with 6 from Honda and 6 Independent.

Both interior and exterior are – considering its age – great. I never describe cars as mint – when all is said and done they are a Used Car – However this is about as good as it gets.

Cars are sold on a first come first served basis – if it is of interest do not hang around – let’s face it you could be waiting a very long time to find another like this.

Due to staff shortages and the need to take up unused holidays the garage will be closed for one week for the period Monday 27th September to Friday 1st October inclusive. We shall re-open on Monday 4th October at 8.00am.

For those customers already booked in for that week JANET will call you in order to offer alternative dates. As ever she will do her very best to keep inconvenience to a minimum.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of myself and the team to thank you – our most loyal customers – for your fantastic support over the last 18 months or so. In keeping with a great many small businesses, we have had to battle to stay afloat in these stormy waters and without you we would never had made it.

Oh, and one final – final thing – JANET is a grandma!

We shall be closing the garage next Monday for a couple of weeks in order to take some well earned holiday time and reduce disruption over a longer period. We'll be taking this short break from 21st June and will be back to business as normal on Monday 5th July.

CHOICES...

I am now going back in time – over 50 years ago when my wife and I were “courting” we had to make some very tough decisions. We lived 2 miles apart and as we had very little money there was a choice to be made - Both get the bus and me walk home OR both walk to her house WITH a bag of chips on the way and me walk home!

What has this to do with the price of fish? (We couldn’t afford the fish!)

Some time ago I bought a little gem of a car – a 20 year old Hyundai Amica. Now before anyone starts scoffing as to why anyone in their right mind would buy this – just bear in mind – It had only done 37k miles and had the same family owners from new AND it came from the same Hyundai dealership that originally sold it. Anyway daft as a brush or not I bought it.

I could not stop smiling when I eventually got it in the workshop – inside was like brand new and whilst the same could not be said of the outside it was still bloody good. As I suspected it flew through its MOT without even an advisory.

Anyway Service plus quick wash and brush up and onto the Market at £750

Couple of viewings and both decided the car cost too much!
Now I was thinking about this – when you take into account its running costs – car tax / insurance / bit of petrol - it works out at around the price two lots of Fish and Chips per week. Throw in the price of two Mushy Peas and a couple of cans of fizzy Vimto and it probably covers the cost of the MOT and a bit of an annual service.

So where is it now?

I knew the chances of finding another like this were NIL – so I kept it myself – I use it every day - it starts first time every time – heater is fantastic – I play Radio 4 on the way in AND Radio 2 on the way home and just to show how well I have done in life I am now able to buy two bags of chips!

As my old Dad used to say...

IMPORTANT CUSTOMER MESSAGE:

Strange times!

There are a number of factors which are impacting on us here at the Garage which in turn are having a knock-on effect on our service to customers:

PARTS
We are experiencing delays obtaining parts that under “normal” circumstances are readily available. In some instances, parts are only available the following day.

MOT’S
Due to the Government decision to extend MOT expiry dates during the Spring and Summer, we are seeing an increase in bookings as things catch up.

MAINTENANCE
Garage equipment requires regular maintenance and repairs – in the current climate, we are experiencing delays in having specialist work carried out.

WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH THE PRICE OF FISH?
If there is a delay getting your vehicle back to you please – Bear* with us – we are doing our best in difficult times.
