💡 See and be seen – lights matter more than you think

Poor lighting isn’t just an MOT fail. It directly affects safety, especially during early mornings, late finishes, and winter months.

🔎 Key things to check:
Headlights working on both dipped and full beam
Brake lights illuminating evenly
Indicators flashing at the correct speed
Number plate lamps (one of the most common MOT failures)

⚠️ Why it matters:
Dim or failed bulbs increase the risk of collisions and reduce reaction time for other road users.

Commercial vehicles often work harder and start more frequently than cars, which means batteries wear out faster.

⚠️ Signs it’s failing:

💡 Coolant’s job:

If they’re clogged, your vehicle struggles to breathe.

🔧 The three main filters:

Air filter – keeps combustion clean, boosting performance and fuel efficiency
Fuel filter – prevents dirt and water damaging injectors
Cabin filter – keeps the driver comfortable and air clean

🚨 Signs of a clogged filter:

Reduced power or acceleration
Increased fuel consumption
Musty air inside the cab

📅 When to change?
Usually every 12,000–15,000 miles, but commercial vehicles in dusty or stop-start conditions may need them sooner.

🛞 Your tyres are the only part of your vehicle that touches the road

If they’re neglected, safety and efficiency both take a hit.

⚖️ Key checks:

Legal tread depth: 1.6mm across the central ¾ – anything less is unsafe and illegal
Under-inflation increases stopping distance, reduces grip, and can cut tyre life in half
Over-inflation wears tyres unevenly and impacts handling

💡 Quick check tip: Pop a 20p coin into your tyre tread – if you can see the border, it’s time for replacements.
