Seatbelt checks should not stop at whether the belt clips in.

Webbing condition matters. Fraying, cuts, stiff patches, contamination, burn marks, twisting, or stitching concerns can all change the conversation from a quick visual check to a proper inspection.

Check the full length of the belt before the vehicle is needed, not when the job is already under pressure.

The cheapest replacement belt is not always the cheapest fix.

If the specification is wrong, the fit is poor, or the part does not suit the vehicle, the cost can quickly move from the belt itself to extra labour, reordering, and a vehicle sitting off the road longer than planned.

If rear seats are being added to a campervan or van conversion, the seatbelts should not be left until the end of the build.

The seating position, belt path, mounting points, passenger position, and approval route all need to be considered together. Leaving the belt system too late can create avoidable rework, delays, or parts that do not suit the finished layout.

Build the restraint setup into the seating plan from the start.

If a seatbelt is jammed, sticking, slow to retract, or not pulling out properly, it is worth treating it as more than a small inconvenience.

A belt can retract, lock and look perfectly fine - and still fail an inspection.

What actually makes it compliant comes down to a few things most people never check: the belt being correct for that vehicle and seating position, the way it's installed and anchored, and the real condition of the webbing under load.
