Today’s news is

IVE RETIRED!!

After 20 years of teaching, I’ve decided it’s time to do other things with my time. It’s been great and I’ll miss working with learners. What I won’t miss is the unending catastrophe of trying to get Tests, and it looks like this will continue, perhaps, for a few more years - IF they ever figure how to sort their mess.
I’ve witnessed approx. 500 of MY pupils being told they passed their Tests and every one has been a special moment for both them and me. It’s still great to see former pupils out driving around.

Massive congratulations to Rhys on his first time Pass this afternoon. Having his full licence will make a big and positive difference to his family.

Wise words copied from an ADI I follow.

Another sad message in tonight 🥹

A few days after passing your test you are no different from the day before.

You have simply demonstrated that, for 40 minutes, you could follow the rules well enough to earn a licence.

The habits you had before the test the mistakes you made the gaps in your experience they do not magically disappear on pass day.

This week, a young driver passed her test on Monday.
By Friday, her car was completely written off.

She was turning right.
It was dark.
It was raining.
A car full of young boys, no insurance, no tax and no MOT, came flying down the road and drove straight into her.
They jumped out and ran.
Police still have not found them.

Her mum had begged her not to drive in the dark and wet.
Roxy was 18.
Headstrong.
Excited.
Independent.
She went out anyway.

By the grace of God, she walked away unharmed.

Looking at the car, that is a miracle.

This is not about blame.
This is not about fear.
This is about reality.

When you pass your test, you are still a brand-new driver in a very unforgiving world.
Darkness hides danger.
Rain removes grip.
Inexperience slows reactions.

The road is full of people who do not care about rules, safety, or who they hurt.

New drivers: listen to your parents.

Sometimes the warning you roll your eyes at
is the warning that saves your life.

Parents: keep saying it.
Even when they don’t listen.
Even when they think they know better.
They hear you more than you think.

To every learner and newly-passed driver reading this…

Your real test starts now.
Protect yourself.
Take fewer risks.
Drive for the drivers who don’t.

I hope she doesn’t loose her confidence and continues driving 🫶🏾

THE SKILLS THAT SAVE LIVES

Driving is not about reacting, it is about anticipating.
The difference between a safe driver and a risky one often comes down to how far ahead they think.

Every moment behind the wheel is a test of awareness. You are not just controlling a car, you are reading the road, watching behaviour, predicting possibilities.

Good drivers do not wait to see a hazard, they expect one. They are scanning for what is next, not just what is now.

When your eyes are up and your mind is calm, you can see what is coming.
You can plan before you act.
You are ready for the cyclist who wobbles, the driver who brakes late, the pedestrian distracted by their phone.

If you are only reacting when something happens, you are already too late.
Planning gives you time.
Time gives you options. Options save lives.

Awareness is not just looking, it is seeing.
It is understanding how speed, space, and timing work together.
It is keeping your eyes moving, mirrors checked, and your brain a step ahead of the car.

Every crash starts the same way, with a moment no one planned for.
Every safe journey ends the same way, with a driver who did.

So before every turn, every overtake, every merge, ask yourself
Have I looked far enough
Have I left enough space
Have I planned my move

Your safety does not depend on luck.
It depends on awareness.
It depends on planning.
It depends on you.
