🐭🚗 WE’VE FOUND THE UNINVITED PASSENGER! 😂🔧

Well, that’s one way to fail an air filter inspection! 🤣

This little visitor had clearly decided the engine bay was the perfect place to set up home… unfortunately, the air filter didn’t agree!

As you can see, the damage left behind was quite impressive. 😳

It’s not just dirt and dust that can cause problems under your bonnet. Mice and other rodents can make themselves at home, damaging filters, chewing wiring and leaving you with some rather expensive surprises!

Just another reason why regular servicing and vehicle checks are so important.

Well, that didn’t take long! 😂 The first frost warnings are starting to appear, which can only mean one thing… winter is on its way!

And if there’s one thing 35 years in the motor trade has taught me, it’s that some cars really do NOT appreciate the cold! 🙈

Before we’re all standing outside at 7am scraping windscreens and praying the car starts, now’s a good time to get a few things checked!

🔋 Battery – If it’s already struggling, a freezing morning might just finish it off!

🔧🚗 Nearly 35 Years in the Trade, and training the next generation … A Few Things I Wish Every Driver Knew

After nearly 30 years working on cars, I’ve seen just about everything… so here are a few things I wish every driver knew 😂🔧

🔧 An MOT and a service are NOT the same thing.
Passing an MOT doesn’t mean the oil has magically changed itself or the filters have decided to clean themselves 😂

👂 Turning the radio up doesn’t fix a strange noise.
Knocking, grinding, squealing or rattling — your car is trying to tell you something. The longer you ignore it, the more expensive its vocabulary tends to become 😂💷

⚠️ Warning lights aren’t decorative.
If one suddenly appears, it doesn’t necessarily mean disaster — but it’s worth getting checked. And no, it probably won’t get bored and go away on its own 😂

🛞 Keep an eye on your tyres.
Tread, pressures and uneven wear all matter. Ideally, your tyres should also be the ONLY part of the vehicle touching the road. If anything else has joined them, give me a ring 😂

🛠️ “It only does it sometimes” is absolutely a thing.
Cars have an incredible ability to make the most horrendous noise for three weeks and then behave like a brand-new vehicle the second I get in it 🙄😂

⛽ PLEASE PUT SOME FUEL IN IT! 😂🙈
You genuinely would not believe how many customers drop their cars off with the fuel light on. If I had a pound for every car I’ve had to put fuel in just so I can road test it, I could probably retire by now 😂⛽

💷 And finally — maintenance is nearly always cheaper than repair.
Looking after the little things can stop them becoming very expensive big things.

Nearly 30 years in the trade and the approach is still the same:

If it needs doing, I’ll tell you.
If it doesn’t, I’ll tell you that too. 👍

Apparently we’re now the 4th emergency service 😂🔧

Engine warning light on ⚠️
Loss of power 😬
Holiday imminent 🏖️
Customer in a slight panic…

Right then 😂

Managed to juggle the diary around and get it straight in.

With the loss of power, first job was to find out where the problem actually was rather than start guessing and throwing parts at it. We smoke tested the boost system — introducing smoke under pressure so that any split, crack or leak in the system shows itself.

And this one definitely showed itself 😂💨

As you can see in the video, smoke was pouring through a hole in the intercooler. That meant the turbo was producing boost, but some of that pressurised air was escaping before it could get where it needed to go — hence the loss of power and warning light.

And GET THIS… were posting videos now 😂😂 Getting technical on Facebook! Who’d have thought it?! 🎥🔧

First garage video and I’ve even managed to give you a live demonstration of a boost leak. This page is getting dangerously professional 😂

Anyway…

⏱️ Back on the road WITHIN THE HOUR

From turning up worried she might not be going anywhere, to a new intercooler fitted, power back and holiday still firmly ON 😂🏖️

FIX IT, DON’T REPLACE IT 🔧

Another satisfied customer — and a HUGE saving in the process! ££

This Nissan Cabstar came in after part of the propshaft assembly had failed. The bit we actually needed wasn’t available separately, which meant the replacement option was the complete assembly at around £1,600 😬

Could we have replaced the lot? Of course.

But when the rest of it is perfectly usable, that’s definitely not in the customer’s best interest 🤷🏼‍♀️

So instead, we made what we needed.

A length of steel, a bit of measuring, cutting, shaping and fabrication later… job done. Back on the road for a fraction of the cost 👌🏻

That’s something we’ll always try to do here. If something can be properly and safely repaired rather than unnecessarily replaced, we’ll look at that option first.

Sometimes the most expensive solution isn’t the best one.

Fix what’s broken. Don’t replace what isn’t. 🔧

Happy Monday 🥳 🥳

Bought something slightly questionable on Facebook Marketplace over the weekend? 😂

Quad? 4x4? Tractor? Bring it down and I’ll tell you what you’ve actually bought 🔧😂

If it’s a combine harvester though… ring me first 😂😂

This quad had recently been bought and the new owner wanted me to give it a proper going over — checking everything mechanically, making sure it was safe and as it should be, and picking up anything that might need attention now or further down the line.

The tractor in the other photo came in for new lights and electrical work 🚜

Cars and vans are obviously what I work on day in, day out, but after nearly 35 years in the trade I work on all sorts — quads, tractors, 4x4s, off-roaders and plenty of other things that don’t necessarily spring to mind when you think “garage”.

Mechanical work, electrical work, welding, fabrication, modifications — and the odd weird and wonderful job that turns up at the door.

So if you’ve got something a little different that needs looking at, give me a shout.
