Are you supporting a young person who has just passed their driving test? The learning is only just beginning 🚗

The first few months after passing a test are when new drivers gain experience and build confidence. They are still learning how to judge risks and deal with different driving situations.

You can help by keeping conversations about driving open and supportive.

Here are some simple ways to support them:
✅ encourage them to build their confidence gradually, including driving at night, in different weather conditions, and on unfamiliar roads
✅ agree sensible limits on carrying passengers and making late-night journeys while they gain experience
✅ consider using a parent and young driver agreement to set expectations and increase independence over time
✅ make sure they know they can always call home for a lift if they feel unsafe or uncomfortable

The Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership works to reduce deaths and serious injuries on our roads. It brings together organisations including the Commissioner’s Office, Staffordshire Police, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, and National Highways.

The partnership focuses on road safety through education, enforcement, and targeted campaigns.

By working together, we can help young people gain valuable driving experience while reducing risks.

❗ATTENTION ALL LEARNERS ❗

From 1 October ( This Thursday ), the process for how learner drivers can swap their driving test is changing ✅️

The change will remove the need for learners to coordinate their availability and will make the process smoother and less stressful🤞♻️

What's changing:

To request a swap, the first learner driver will still need to call DVSA.

The second learner will then need to call DVSA on the same working day to confirm they're happy with the swap.

The swap can only process the swap if both learners call DVSA on the same working day.

Previously, both learners needed to be available at the same time to make the swap.

Please share to make sure all pupils are aware of this change.

From the DVSA.
