🚨 Big changes to driving test bookings effective from TODAY.

If you're a learner driver in the UK, this affects you right now.

From 9 June 2026, DVSA has introduced a new rule: if you want to move your driving test to a different test centre, you can only switch to one of your 3 nearest centres to where your test is currently booked.

That's it. No more moving your test anywhere across the country to grab an earlier slot.

And this is actually the third change this year here's the full picture:

📅 31 March 2026 You're limited to just 2 changes per booking (down from 6). Change date, time, or test centre it counts.

📅 12 May 2026 Only the learner can book and manage their own test. Instructors can no longer do this on your behalf.

📅 9 June 2026 Test centre moves restricted to 3 nearest centres only. TODAY ✅

Why is this happening?

DVSA introduced these rules to stop bots and third-party companies from bulk-buying test slots and reselling them for as much as £500 when the official fee is just £62. The system was being exploited, and learners were paying the price.

What does this mean for you practically?

If your test is booked at Southport, and you want to move it you can only move it to the 3 closest centres by road distance. You can't just hop to any centre with an earlier slot anymore.

My advice as an ADI: book when you're genuinely ready. With fewer changes allowed and fewer centres to move to, there's very little room for last-minute reshuffling now.

🎉 ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST! FIRST TIME PASS! 🎉

Massive congratulations to Luke, who passed his practical driving test first time at Southport Test Centre today! 🏆

Luke, you absolute legend. Calm, controlled, and composed you earned this one.

Now, there was ONE minor that's actually worth talking about, because it trips up a LOT of learners:

📋 Planning & Awareness specifically, not leaving enough space for a large vehicle (a truck) turning at a junction.

The Highway Code — Rule 215 — reminds us:

"Give large vehicles as much room as possible."

Think of it this way: a truck turning isn't asking for space. It's DEMANDING it. Like a bouncer at a club you don't argue, you step aside. 😄

Luke handled the rest of his test brilliantly, and that one minor is now a lesson for every future driver out there. Space costs nothing. Failing costs £62. Do the maths. 🤓

Now… on a personal note.

After the test, Luke handed me something that genuinely stopped me in my tracks.

A keyring. Shaped like a military dog tag. Engraved with one word:

VETERAN ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Served with honour. Remembered with pride. A symbol of sacrifice, strength, and resilience. Forever respected. Never forgotten. See also: hero, soldier, protector." 🥹

I won't pretend I wasn't moved. After years of service in the Polish Airborne Forces tours in Afghanistan, jumping out of perfectly good aircraft someone remembered. That meant more than words can say. Thank you, Luke. Genuinely. 🪖

🎉 Sreenand PASSED — First Time! 🎉

The examiner loved it. Smooth, safe, confident driving from start to finish. ✅

But here's the golden nugget of feedback that made us both laugh:

"Everything was great but on the national speed limit roads, you need to actually USE that speed limit. Even when there are a few bumps in the road." 🚙💨

And honestly? He's not wrong. A lot of learners confuse "being safe" with "going slow." On a national speed limit road, doing 40mph when conditions allow 60mph isn't cautious it's actually a hazard to other drivers. Matching the flow of traffic IS part of safe driving. Potholes included. 😅

Sreenand got it right where it mattered most and that's why he's driving home with a full licence today.

Well done, mate. Absolute legend. 🏆

One of the best perks of being a driving instructor that nobody talks about? The people. 🙌

Today, one of my students surprised me with something truly special a homemade portion of Jollof Rice, freshly cooked just for me. Now, if you know me even a little, you’ll know I’m a BIG fan of Jollof Rice. And this one? Absolutely outstanding. 🍚🔥

Moments like this remind me why I fell in love with this job. Every day behind the wheel with a student is a chance to meet someone new, hear a new story, and occasionally taste something incredible from a completely different part of the world.

I genuinely love exploring local cuisines and learning about different cultures, and driving lessons give me exactly that opportunity. Smiling faces, brilliant people, and now… incredible food. What more could you ask for?

Now I’ve had brilliant passes before but there’s something special about watching someone drive so cleanly that the examiner just… sits there. Pen in hand. Waiting. And waiting. And never needing it. 😄

Three failed tests. One instructor who refused to give up on her. 💛

Today was a very special day. 🎂

Meet Milena
she came to me after failing her driving test three times in Liverpool. Three times she sat in that car, gave it everything she had, and drove home without a pass certificate.
