The Kart Championship – Round 4 | Rowrah 🏁
A weekend full of mistakes, setbacks and a bit of bad luck… but we still had an amazing time and left Rowrah feeling really positive about what’s to come. 💪
Unfortunately, we couldn’t make Friday practice, which put us on the back foot from the start.
Saturday
Our first and only practice session was on Saturday morning. We switched onto wets just before heading out, but the track dried almost immediately, meaning we didn’t get any meaningful running.
Qualifying was a disaster. It was our first time on slicks all weekend, and we unknowingly had the wrong gearing fitted, something we only discovered later in the heats.
Heat 1
Started: P29
Finished: DNF
A loose throttle cable ended our race early.
Heat 2
Started: P29
Finished: P27
We took a huge hit at the start 💥 which bent the track rod, and with the wrong gearing the kart was almost undriveable. Despite that, we managed to bring it home and even gain a couple of places.
Sunday
Super Heat 1
Started: P30
Finished: P26
A full wet race and my first time driving Rowrah in those conditions. Low tyre pressures didn’t help as the track never really dried, but it was valuable experience and another four places gained.
Super Heat 2
Started: P30
Finished: P29
Finally, with the correct setup underneath us in dry conditions, everything started to click. I was setting PB after PB and was quicker than several karts ahead, but just couldn’t find a way through. A nosecone penalty while trying to make a move didn’t help either.
Repechage
Started: P30
Finished: P26
The kart felt the best it had all weekend, and I set my fastest lap of the meeting. After making overtake after overtake, I fought my way up to P21, only to be punted off on the final lap, dropping us back to P26 at the flag.
Big thanks to Kurtis and everyone KX Performance UK for all there help and support and making us feel so welcome - great experience and big learning curve being in a team with so many fast junior drivers.
Next week we return to the Rowrah for the Round 4 of the Ultimate Kart Championships - hopefully dad will be a bit better on the tools 🤞🏻🫣😜😂
