Officially - I am no longer a driving instructor!
I loved teaching people to drive, knowing I had helped people change their lives, get new jobs, find confidence, independence, etc
However, covid came along and although business picked back up, the DVSA were not the most helpful or supportive organisation.
Happy to take licensing fees, test fees, etc but did very little (despite the claims issued) about resolving the difficulties in people obtaining a test.
They left the system wide open to abuse which led to people paying way over the odds for a test, being scammed, etc.
This was so demotivating - how can you teach someone to drive knowing a test could be over a year in the future and to get one is just a lottery unless you pay hundreds of pounds?
As my new job became more demanding - a job I took during covid as although the DVSA were asking for licence fees but not allowing you to work or extending the licence for these periods without paymet, I cut down on the amount of people I could teach.
Insurance has tripled in cost, fuel, car repairs and maintenance has skyrocketed to the point where unless you charge ridiculous amounts for a lesson and do it full time, it really isn’t worthwhile.
So with sadness, I decided not to renew my ADI badge this time and have stepped back fully from the role of instructor.
If I taught you and you have read this far, it truly was a pleasure to do so and I hope you’ve enjoyed being a motorist and have had and continue to have a safe experience on the roads.
Thanks to all who I have met and who have supported my little business.
Best wishes for whatever your futures hold and NEVER be afraid to make a change and try something new!
Donna 🥰
