The low gears are best when driving up a steep hill. Before you change up a gear, make sure that you accelerate first, a bit more than you would on a flat road

You will doing some basic maintenance safety checks in your lessons. These are just the bare minimum to help keep your car running and also legal. But even some these can come with a risk to you. So if you are driving or working on your car. Do not let your guard down and be complacent.

Remember to tie long hair back when operating machinery such as a car when checking in the engine bay -- serious injury can be caused by not tying up long hair especially when checking in the engine bay - switch the engine off to prevent serious injury when checking oil and levels

The service belt can cause serious injuries if long hairs were to get entangled in these pulleys - always switch engine off whilst checking oil and carrying out other maintenance.

This can also be loose clothing or a tie so always ensure you are looking after you before you look after the car.

• use all your mirrors
• check the ‘blind spot’ behind you (the part of the road you cannot see easily in the mirrors)
• check there are no pedestrians, cyclists, other road users or obstructions in the road behind you

You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear.

If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past.

Slow-moving or speed-restricted vehicles should always remain in the left-hand lane of the carriageway unless overtaking.

Cruise control is an electronic system that enables you to fix a vehicle’s accelerator on a specific speed, so you can take your foot off the pedal.

It’s basically a form of driving on auto-pilot.

Cruise control is designed to be used on A-roads and motorways that don’t have frequent stops and turns to negotiate.

Driving is unpredictable and you never know whats round the next corner which also makes the driving test unpredictable....

Driving is unpredictable and you never know whats round the next corner which also makes the driving test unpredictable.

But there are certain things that you can expect and you shouldn't be surprised by such as pedestrians wanting to cross at pedestrian crossings, especially look out for zebra crossings as they're not controlled by traffic lights. Try not to just think about what you need to deal with right now but also what's next

T-junction with priority over vehicles from the right

Why is it a warning sign?

You will be going round a sharp left hand bend so will have to slow down.

However the person approaching from the right may be going straight on. So although you have priority they might not be concentrating and might continue through the junction and cause a potential accident
