Spot the air cooled
It's a game I play on long car Journeys
You can set your own rules
My rules are as follows:
General aim of the game is to spot as many air cooled vehicles as possible
I don't include motor bikes but apart from that pretty much anything goes.
You can play on your own or with up to as many people as you can get in your car.
It's not a particularly riveting game at the best of time and usually becomes mind numbingly tedious when stuck in non moving traffic. but what else do you do on the M25 for hours on end when you're not going anywhere fast?
I suppose you could spice it up a bit by looking out for things on the road that are more common, like Blue cars, red cars, left hand drive lorries (maybe not the lorries there are millions of those) especially in Kent.
What I am trying to say is there are lots of ways you can pass the time while on the road.
My reason for this observational post is that I spent over four hours on the road and didn't spot a single air cooled Car/van.
Back in the nineties on the way back from Van Fest one year, three of us in a van spotted over a thousand Air cooled vehicles (all Volkswagens)
Now I'm a little concerned that we were a little over zealous with our breaking.
I know we dismantled a fair few beetles and Type 2s but it was you lot that kept demanding more and more parts, maybe the great beast has eaten itself.
We don't dismantle anything if it can be kept on the road these days and we repair broken stuff instead of throwing it away. So maybe you can teach an old VW dog new tricks.
What can we do for the future?
Let's all lighten our carbon footprint, The new all electric cars are more environmentally friendly, but only if the car your replacing is truly at the end if its life, Because there is still a massive carbon footprint to consider from the manufacturing of a new car.
Old cars are less environmentally friendly but you don't have to factor in the carbon footprint of making one.
Making the world greener isn't just about buying more energy efficient stuff every time something greener comes on the market. It's about using it less and looking after the things we already have.
Walk don't drive, If you're in a hurry run, If you need to be there by a certain time leave earlier, It's easy simple steps that just need a little pre planning, if your chilly don't reach for the central heating button, Put a jumper on.
Most of these simple things will save you money and may even help you get a little fitter, Let's not be the generation that ends humanity lets be the generation that kick starts repair process.
