🏁😂 Some motorsport stories are simply too good not to share...

During Emerson Fittipaldi's visit to Woodcote & Copse, he asked how we came up with our name.
When we explained it was inspired by two of Silverstone's most iconic corners, his face lit up.

"That's a fantastic name!"

Instantly, he was transported back to one of the wildest races of his early career...

Looking Death in the Eye (Backwards): A Silverstone Slipstream Story

In 1969, single-seater racing at Silverstone was a game of high-speed chess. With massive grids of identical Formula Fords charging down the straights, the slipstream effect was so intense that the race leader frequently changed every lap. Leading early was a tactical error; the true masters played the long game.
During one frantic race, a young Emerson calculated his winning move down to the final metres.

Knowing the leader would be vulnerable on the run to the flag, Emerson positioned himself in third on the penultimate lap, planning to use a double-draft off first and second to slingshot into the lead. It was the perfect plan—until fourth place tore up the script.

As they rounded the final bends, the driver behind picked up a monster tow. Suddenly the cars were flying three abreast, forcing Emerson onto the grass as they charged towards Woodcote.

Chaos erupted. In the scramble for the line, the fourth-place car lost traction, spun violently, and crossed the finish line first... completely backwards.
Decades later, Emerson still laughs at the surreal sight of staring straight into the winner's wide, panicked eyes as they crossed the line in reverse. It remains the ultimate Silverstone memory: tactical, terrifying and completely unpredictable.
Four cars. One finish line. One winner... backwards.

These are the stories that never appear in the record books, but they're the moments that define motorsport.

Thank you once again, Emerson, for sharing these incredible memories with us.

❤️🏁 What does it take to become a champion?

When Emerson Fittipaldi visited our Woodcote & Copse Studios during the British Grand Prix, one image in our Alfa Romeo Studio immediately caught his attention.
It wasn't a racing car...

It was a photograph of one of the greatest racing drivers to have ever lived—Tazio Nuvolari.

Without hesitation, Emerson began telling one of the most astonishing stories in motorsport history.

👇
The Unbreakable Spirit: When Emerson Met Nuvolari

"In September 1925, Nuvolari was a rising phenomenon on two wheels but was testing the limits of four, pushing a magnificent Alfa Romeo P2 Grand Prix car at Monza. A violent, high-speed crash left him heavily fractured, lacerated, and ordered by doctors to endure an absolute month of strict bed rest.
But the European Motorcycle Championship was just six days away, and Nuvolari refused to let a title slip through his fingers.

In a move of pure, defiant genius, he demanded that the doctors and nurses wrap his broken body in a rigid plaster corset while he was positioned in a fixed, crouched riding stance. Bandaged tightly into the exact shape of his racing machine, he had to be physically held upright by his mechanics on the starting grid because he could not support his own weight.

Riding his legendary Bianchi 'Freccia Celeste,' he didn't just compete—he dominated, taking an impossible victory to become the European Champion.

It is a story of unparalleled grit that still makes modern World Champions look on in absolute awe. Seeing Emerson connect so deeply with Nuvolari's image binds the golden eras of motorsport together, reminding us that the DNA of Alfa Romeo has always been fueled by an unstoppable passion to win against all odds."

Imagine that...

Six days after a devastating crash. His body held together by plaster. Unable to even stand unaided. Yet somehow, he lined up on the grid... and won.
It's no surprise this is the story Emerson chose to share. Champions recognise champions, no matter the era.

Thank you once again, Emerson, for bringing these remarkable moments of motorsport history to life. We can't wait to share the next story from his unforgettable visit. 🏁

🚗🌍 3,500 miles. 2 weeks. 7 countries. One incredible Lotus Evora 400.

We absolutely LOVE this! 🙌

One of our recent Lotus Silverstone friends has just returned from an epic European road trip in his Lotus Evora 400, and kindly sent us some amazing photos and footage from along the way.

The adventure started with Le Shuttle from Folkestone before taking in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, heading all the way up to Hirtshals at the northern tip of Denmark. From there, it was onto the ferry to Norway, where the real adventure began... touring around some of Norway’s incredible fjords before continuing on to Oslo! 🇳🇴
Next up was Sweden, Copenhagen and the famous Øresund Bridge, before heading home.

In fact, they loved Norway so much that they decided to squeeze in even more time there, which meant some SERIOUS driving days on the way back... including Copenhagen to Ghent in one hit! Over 1,000km in a day, with only coffee and Super Unleaded keeping them going ☕⛽😂

And honestly... what a car to do it in! The Evora 400 proved to be the perfect tool for the job – covering huge distances, tackling some of Europe's most incredible roads and making every single mile part of the adventure.

We’re slightly jealous, if we’re honest! 😍

And this got us thinking... we LOVE seeing what our customers get up to with their cars and bikes once they leave us!

Whether you're out exploring in your Lotus, enjoying a weekend blast in your Caterham, touring in your Morgan, heading out on an Alfa Romeo adventure, exploring in your Subaru or out on the road with your Norton, please keep sending us your photos and videos! 📸🎥

We love seeing the adventures our customers – and friends – are getting up to... and we're sure our online friends love seeing them too!

So, if you've got some great photos, videos or stories from a recent adventure, road trip, track day or ride-out, send them our way! We’d absolutely love to share them. ❤️

🏎️✨ Sometimes, the car sitting quietly in a showroom has a story that changed a life...

As part of our Emerson Fittipaldi series, one particular car in our Woodcote & Copse Studios immediately caught Emerson's eye.

Our Lotus Type 61.

What happened next was another incredible story from one of motorsport's greatest legends.

👇

The Wedge Evolution: From Turbine to Formula Ford

"When Emerson Fittipaldi visited our Woodcote & Copse Studios at Silverstone, he immediately spotted our Lotus Type 61 and recounted the story of how he had owned the very same model of Lotus Formula Ford in Brazil before he arrived in the UK in 1969. He was a young champion, hungry to prove himself against the very best in the world.
Having already conquered the fiercely competitive South American grids to claim the Brazilian Formula Vee title, he risked everything on a move to the UK's Formula Ford championship—dominating the field and quickly catching the attention of Colin Chapman.

The car that defined this era of junior motorsport carried the DNA of a revolution.
Inspired by Colin Chapman's radical, jet-turbine-powered Lotus 56 Formula 1 and Indy cars, Lotus brought the same avant-garde 'wedge' aerodynamics to the grassroots grid with the iconic Type 61 Formula Ford. Moving away from the traditional cigar-shaped chassis of the 1960s, this wedge design sliced through the air and changed the visual landscape of single-seater racing forever."

Just imagine seeing a car from your past over 50 years later... and remembering that it was the machine that helped launch your journey to Formula 1.

For Emerson, the Lotus Type 61 wasn't just another race car—it was part of the path that led him to Colin Chapman, Team Lotus and, ultimately, two Formula 1 World Championships.

Thank you once again, Emerson, for sharing another remarkable piece of motorsport history with us.

More incredible stories from his visit are still to come... 🏁

🏍️✨ Every racing legend has a beginning... and sometimes it starts with a single lap.

As part of our exclusive series from Emerson Fittipaldi's visit to Woodcote & Copse during the British Grand Prix, we asked him what he thought as he walked into our Norton Motorcycle Studio.

The answer wasn't what we expected...

The sight of the iconic Norton machines instantly transported him back to his childhood and to the very moment he fell in love with motorsport.

The Spark of Inspiration: From Norton Manx to World Champion

"In the mid-1950s, a 10-year-old Emerson sat in the grandstands at a major racing festival at Interlagos in São Paulo, wide-eyed as international stars roared past. Among them was a young British phenom named John Surtees, piloting the legendary, single-cylinder Norton Manx. Watching Surtees masterfully slide the roaring British bike to victory left an unforgettable impression on the young boy.

At that exact moment, a dream was born.

Decades later, after Emerson had carved out his own legendary legacy in motorsport, he finally met John Surtees as a peer. He was able to share that exact childhood memory with him, confirming that watching Surtees win on that Norton Manx in Brazil was the definitive catalyst that inspired him to pursue a life at the absolute limit of speed.

It is a profound piece of racing heritage. John Surtees would famously go on to become the only person in history to win World Championships on both two and four wheels—unknowingly passing the torch that afternoon in São Paulo to a young boy who would follow in his exact footsteps to the pinnacle of Formula 1."

Just imagine that for a moment...

A 10-year-old boy sits in the grandstands, watching a Norton Manx race to victory. He leaves inspired. Years later, he becomes a two-time Formula 1 World Champion and returns to tell that very story while standing beside another Norton.

It's moments like these that remind us why we love what we do. Every motorcycle, every racing car and every legendary name carries a story—and sometimes those stories inspire the next generation of champions.

A huge thank you once again to Emerson for sharing such an incredible memory with us. It was a privilege to hear it first-hand.

Stay tuned for the next chapter in our Emerson Fittipaldi series... there are still plenty more fascinating stories to come. 🏁
