Changes to the way driving tests are booked.

From 12 May, only you as the learner driver will be able to book and manage your car driving test.

This means your driving instructor won’t be allowed to do this for you.

Huge well done and congratulations Becca Pollard, you passed your driving test in Horsforth at the first attempt. It was a well deserved pass as you did a really great drive.

Fantastic drive in Skipton to pass your driving test after a slight frantic trip to get there after coming across road closures due to a serious accident. It’s been great to help you achieve this.

Congratulations Francis Whelan on a great drive yesterday in Steeton. First time pass and a lovely comment from the examiner on how well you drove. I’ve enjoyed our lessons and you can now enjoy your Thursday afternoons with no driving to do! All the best for your Uni adventures in September.

From 31 March 2026 driving test booking rules are changing.

Driving Instructors will no longer be able to book driving tests on behalf of the learner. The responsibility for booking driving tests will be with the learner driver.

Please check with your Driving Instructor before booking a test, they will know when you will be ready to pass the test.

To ensure your Driving Instructor is available for the test you’ll need their Instructor number. Your Instructor records their availability with the DVSA, this includes periods when they are unavailable (ie holidays etc), their hours of work, and it also prevents you from booking a test when another driving test is taking place with the same Instructor.

It’s possible to change driving tests 6 times at the moment, from 31 March this will be reduced to 2 times. If you have to change your driving test more than twice you will have to cancel the test and book again. To prevent any necessity of changing tests please check with your Instructor that you will be ready to take and pass a driving test.

These changes are coming in as the DVSA think this will help address the current issues around waiting times for driving tests!

Wow an amazing drive in Steeton yesterday for a zero fault pass! Well done Max Memery, well deserved praise from the Examiner who commented on how well you handled a rather annoying pedestrian determined to cause you problems with your reverse parking! 😆
Hope you manage to find that car so you’ve not many more 5am starts for that journey to work.
It’s been an enjoyable time helping you achieve this, all the best for the future.
