🚐 JB CARAVANS – TIP OF THE DAY 🚐

🔥 Don’t use your gas locker as general storage!

It can be tempting to squeeze levelling blocks, tools, cables and cleaning products around the gas bottles—but loose items may damage hoses or pipework and can block the locker’s ventilation openings.

Keep your gas locker safe and tidy:

✅ Make sure every gas bottle is upright and properly secured
✅ Keep the floor-level ventilation openings completely clear
✅ Don’t allow equipment to rub against regulators, hoses or pipework
✅ Check visible hoses for cracking, stiffness or other damage
✅ Keep bottle valves and regulators easy to reach
✅ Never store flammable liquids or loose batteries in the locker
✅ Don’t alter, disconnect or repair gas fittings yourself

If you smell gas, extinguish all flames, avoid operating electrical switches and turn off the gas supply only if it’s safe to do so. Ventilate the area and have the system professionally inspected before using it again.

Gas testing, servicing and repairs should only be carried out by someone with the correct gas competence. JB Caravans is Gas Safe registered and can inspect your complete caravan or motorhome LPG system.

A handy fact for the post: many caravan fridges need several hours to cool properly, so switching one on just before you leave may not be enough. Dometic recommends starting some models the day before a trip.

🚐 Something that might surprise you about your caravan fridge…

It can take hours to cool down properly. Turning it on as you’re packing up and expecting it to be cold by the time you arrive might leave you disappointed!

For many models, it’s best to switch the fridge on well ahead of your trip and put pre-chilled food inside. Always check your fridge’s handbook, as different models work in different ways.
