Cleveland Street Roundabout, Doncaster | 3rd Exit onto Trafford Way

In this video, we navigate Cleveland Street Roundabout in Doncaster, taking the 3rd exit onto Trafford Way with lots of traffic on the approach and circulating around the roundabout.

Busy roundabouts can be challenging for learner drivers, especially when traffic is building up. Good observation, correct lane positioning, appropriate speed and planning ahead are all essential to navigating these situations safely.

When approaching a busy roundabout, remember to:

• Check road signs and lane markings early.
• Choose the correct lane for your intended exit.
• Adjust your speed to the traffic conditions.
• Look for safe opportunities to emerge without rushing.
• Check your mirrors and signal appropriately when leaving the roundabout.

The key is to remain calm, make safe decisions and never feel pressured into taking a gap that isn't suitable.

Question for drivers: Would you find this roundabout challenging during busy traffic, or is it one you use regularly?

For learner drivers preparing for their driving test, practising roundabouts regularly can help build confidence, improve observations and develop better decision making.

Middlewood Driving Test Route | Sheffield

In this video, we travel along Middlewood Road towards the junction with Catch Bar Lane, a section of the Middlewood driving test route.

One important thing for learners to understand here is lane positioning. When travelling towards Catch Bar Lane, the right lane is used to go ahead in the first section. After passing Leppings Lane on the left, the left lane becomes the lane for going ahead.

This is a useful reminder to pay attention to road markings, signs and changes in lane layout rather than assuming the same lane will continue to be correct throughout your journey.

When practising this section, make sure you:

- Observe the road signs and lane markings early.
- Identify the correct lane for your intended direction.
- Check your mirrors and signal where necessary before changing lanes.
- Make any lane changes safely and in good time.

Test your knowledge: If you were driving towards Catch Bar Lane, which lane would you use to go ahead before passing Leppings Lane, and which lane would you use afterwards?

Let us know your answer in the comments.

WHY THIS LEARNER FAILED THEIR DRIVING TEST

Sometimes, one mistake can make the difference between passing and failing your driving test.

In this example, the learner entered a keep clear area when there was not enough space ahead to move through safely.

Keep clear markings are designed to prevent vehicles from blocking junctions, entrances and other important areas of the road. Entering these markings when traffic ahead is stationary can cause unnecessary obstruction and affect the flow of traffic.

As a learner driver, it is important to develop the habit of looking well ahead, assessing traffic conditions and planning your next move before committing to a manoeuvre.

Before entering a keep clear area, ask yourself whether there is enough room on the other side for your vehicle to clear the markings completely. If traffic is queuing and your exit is blocked, wait until there is sufficient space.

Remember, good driving is not just about controlling the vehicle. It is about anticipation, planning and making safe decisions.

Watch the footage and see if you can identify the mistake.

At Drive With AAA Driving School, we help learners develop the skills and awareness needed to become safe, confident drivers.

We provide manual and automatic driving lessons across Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley.

Rotherham Driving Test Route | Great Eastern Way to Barbers Avenue

In today's video, we're covering another section of the Rotherham driving test route, travelling along Great Eastern Way and taking the second exit at the roundabout onto Barbers Avenue.

Lane choice is important at this roundabout. The left lane serves both the first and second exits, so make sure you pay attention to the road markings and signs as you approach.

When approaching a roundabout, remember to:

• Check your mirrors and assess the traffic around you.
• Look for road signs and lane markings to help you choose the correct lane.
• Adjust your speed according to the road and traffic conditions.
• Observe carefully and give way where required.
• Maintain good lane discipline as you enter and leave the roundabout.

Practising familiar roads with your instructor can help you develop confidence, improve your observations and make safer decisions behind the wheel.

Remember, traffic conditions can change, so always follow the signs and road markings present on the day and drive according to the conditions.

Drive with AAA Driving School provides manual and automatic driving lessons across Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and surrounding areas.

University Square Roundabout, Sheffield. A different perspective on a familiar junction.

This video was filmed from a different angle, looking back at the traffic behind us as we travel from Netherthorpe Road towards University Square Roundabout and take the third exit onto Brook Hill.

Looking at a roundabout from this perspective gives you a different view of how traffic approaches, positions itself and moves through the junction.

When driving, it is important to remain aware of what is happening around you, use your mirrors effectively and plan your approach early. Good observation and correct positioning help you make safe, confident decisions, especially at busy junctions.

For learner drivers, watching different perspectives can help you understand traffic flow and recognise situations you may encounter during your lessons or driving test.

Have you driven through University Square Roundabout recently? What do you notice when you watch it from this angle?
