This SEAT Arona came into Tommy’s Motorhaus LTD with the inspection light showing on the dash. As soon as the customer called, we made room in the diary to get her booked in promptly.

We checked what servicing the vehicle needed and reported back to the customer with clear pricing before carrying out any work.

The oil service and air filter replacement were well overdue, so we got everything sorted:

⚙️ GEARBOX SERVICING — WHAT CAN GO WRONG IF IT’S NEGLECTED?
Your engine isn’t the only thing that relies on oil.

Gearbox oil helps lubricate and protect internal components. As it ages or becomes contaminated, that protection can deteriorate, allowing friction, heat and wear to increase.

Problems can include:
🔧 Rough or hesitant gear changes
🔧 Whining or other unusual noises
🔧 Wear to bearings and gears
🔧 In automatic gearboxes, shifting issues and overheating
🔧 Costly internal damage if problems are left unchecked

Service requirements vary between manual, automatic and DSG gearboxes — the correct fluid and procedure matter.

🔧 HOW DOES YOUR CAR KNOW THE BRAKE PADS ARE WORN?

That brake pad warning on your dashboard often starts with a small sensor fitted into or attached to a brake pad.

As the pad wears thinner, the sensor eventually contacts the brake disc. This wears through a wire or changes the electrical circuit, triggering the warning.

It’s a prompt to get your brakes checked — it doesn’t give you a guaranteed number of miles left! ⚠️

Once worn through, the sensor normally needs replacing alongside the pads. Depending on the vehicle, the service indicator may also need resetting.

And there’s a catch: sensors aren’t necessarily fitted to every pad, so no warning light doesn’t mean all your brakes are healthy. Regular inspections still matter.

🔴 A red brake system warning is different. If it stays on with the handbrake released, stop safely and seek assistance — it could indicate low brake fluid or a braking system fault.
