Recently, we had this BMW F82 M4 in our shop for brand-new genuine brake discs and pads on all four wheels. 🛞

As you can expect, the cost to the customer was not inexpensive, but it was still significantly less than Sytner's original figure!

This customer came to us after another garage suggested us to them for their F20 1 Series N47N engine's timing chain replacement. ⛓

Although the timing chain wasn't showing any obvious symptoms of wear, he had the chain replaced out of caution because he'd owned the car for over a decade and had driven it over 100,000 miles.

Not the cheapest job, but a lot less expensive than buying a new engine. Now that his engine won't require another timing chain for a while, the customer can rest easy. 👏🏽

N47 engines are among the most widely purchased engines from our spares section and among the most frequently replaced engines at our Sheffield facility on Rutland Street. 🚗

The customer's original engine may be seen in the second image. The sump and the side of the engine block have been destroyed since the conrod tore through the side.

When it was destroyed, we can only imagine how loudly it went!

We provided the low mileage engine with the new oil and filter and timing chain inspection! The car will soon start running again. 👏🏽

At Quarry Motors, we see a lot of BMW and MINI models with Timing Chain problems.

This BMW Z4 was not functioning properly; it had entered limp mode, and the engine ECU had disabled the turbo to save the engine.

The timing chain guides had broken, causing the chain to become slack and jump the timing on the Vanos gears, as shown in the photographs. The timing chain kit and guides were completely rebuilt with new parts, and the car now runs like new!

Thankfully, the timing chain kit did not snap completely, since this may have resulted in catastrophic internal damage!

Due to the fact that the entire roof must be removed, swapping the roof motor on a BMW Z4 isn't the easiest of tasks. 🤔

When the drainage holes become clogged, the motor is submerged in water and eventually fails.

Before installing the new motor and reinstalling the roof, the drain holes are thoroughly cleaned. 🫧
