Many of these engines are now 6–10 years old, where age becomes a bigger factor than mileage

Age and oil contamination can cause deterioration long before drivers expect it.

Once the material breaks down, debris can block the oil pickup or, in this case, the vacuum pump — leading to major engine damage.
