Chess Driving School

Chess Driving School Keep Calm ! Play Chess & Learn How 2 Drive 🙃🙃 Chess is a game of strategy, where you plan several moves ahead and make decisions based on the current position.

About Chess Driving School:

I am Mohammad Imran Ali, a former National U-16 Chess Champion of Bangladesh, a former Premier League player for Bangladesh Biman, and an Internationally rated FIDE player. I founded Chess Driving School, where I combine my experience in chess with driving instruction to provide a unique learning experience. The Connection Between Chess and Driving:

At first glance, c

hess and driving might seem unrelated, but I believe they share many important similarities. When things don’t go according to plan, you need to stay calm, learn from your mistakes, and adjust your approach. Similarly, driving is about planning ahead and anticipating potential hazards. While on the road, you must prioritize which situations require more attention and how to react calmly. Just like in chess, if something goes wrong, it’s important to stay focused, adapt, and continue moving forward. Client-Centered Learning:

As a former professional chess player, I understand that each person learns differently. That’s why I tailor my lessons to the individual needs of each pupil. Everyone has unique strengths and weaknesses, and my goal is to adapt to those to ensure the best learning experience possible. When I learned to drive, I was often told what to do without understanding the why. I passed the driving test, but I didn’t truly grasp the concepts behind my actions. At Chess Driving School, we focus on client-centered lessons that ensure every lesson is valuable. Driving is a skill for life, and I believe it’s essential to understand the principles behind what you're doing—not just follow instructions to pass a test. Why Chess Driving School? Chess Driving School is ideal for those who are passionate about learning—not just passing the test. Driving is a skill you’ll use for a lifetime, and it’s important to approach it with calmness and focus. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced driver, I help you develop the skills you need to be a confident, safe driver. Your Safety is My Priority:

As the founder of Chess Driving School, I am committed to your safety. That’s why I will never take you to the test centre until I am certain you’re ready. While this might not always be the immediate outcome you expect, it is the best decision for you and your loved ones in the long run. Trust Chess Driving School:

Chess Driving School will always be a place you can trust to guide you through your journey. I’m here to ensure that you not only pass your test but also become a skilled, confident driver who is always prepared for the road ahead. Mohammad Imran Ali

Congratulations, Amanda!

Well done on passing your practical driving test at Sevenoaks on Saturday the 14th—with just 3 minor faults. What an achievement!

Honestly, I’m not quite sure how to express how proud I am. You’re not just my student—you’ve become a good friend too. The test was over so quickly that I found myself wondering, "What just happened?" It’s only the second time I’ve had that experience, and I must say—I love it every time!

Hearing the examiner’s positive feedback was the icing on the cake. And what a day—two passes in one day! You are full of talent, and I truly believe you’ll shine in everything you do.

Always remember: a good driver knows when to walk, when to jog, when to run—and when to pause. That wisdom applies not just to driving, but to life itself.

Really well done, Amanda. Enjoy the journey ahead.

Congratulations to Emily for successfully passing her practical driving test with an exceptional score of Zero faults. Emily was introduced to me by Craig Duncason, who is a proud father of Erin, who also achieved a Zero fault score. Emily has consistently demonstrated exceptional listening skills and actively sought clarification during lessons to enhance her understanding. The night before the exam, Emily’s father, Greg, inquired about her preparation. I expressed my confidence in her abilities, stating that I would feel comfortable sleeping next to her while she drives. Today’s results serve as an accurate reflection of her readiness to embark on the road. Well done, Emily. I extend my best wishes for your future endeavours. ☺️🚦🚘🌠

I am deeply grateful to Craig Duncason for introducing me to Emily. Through your recommendation, I had the pleasure of meeting Emily, and I discovered that her father, Greg, is also an avid chess player. This led me to join Sidcup Chess Club, where I have been actively participating in chess matches whenever possible.

What an amazing day for Chess Driving School and Kim!
A few months ago, I received a phone call from a mother looking to book a lesson for her daughter. She was concerned about a possible language barrier and wanted to see if I’d be able to help. I booked an initial assessment session and decided to take Kim on as a unique challenge—and what a journey it’s been.
We communicated using everything we had: diagrams, drawings, scenario-based explanations, and even Google Translate (which gave us quite a few laughs with its quirky translations). We did a lot of seat-switching for practical demonstrations, and slowly but surely, we started to bridge that gap.
Fast forward to today: Kim passed her driving test on her first attempt with only 2 driver faults, which were purely down to nerves. I can't praise her enough for the dedication and effort she’s shown throughout this process.
To prepare her, I created countless challenging driving scenarios to ensure she would be confident and safe on the road—no matter what. From Sevenoaks to Bromley, Sidcup, navigating narrow single-track roads, dual carriageways, reversing around corners, parallel parking between two cars with a mile-long queue watching, reverse bay parking in a busy car park, to navigating unknown routes via SatNav, signs, and road markings—she did it all.
Even when her nerves were shaky during mock tests, she still came to each lesson with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. Before her test, she asked, "Aren’t you going to give me any tips?" I told her:
“Just go for a drive. Be a taxi driver and take the examiner as your passenger. Take full responsibility for your car. If you asked me to borrow my car today, I’d happily hand you the keys. That’s how ready you are.”
And guess what? She smashed it.
Kim, I’m incredibly proud of you. You taught me so much—especially how “yes” can sometimes mean “no.” 😊 You’ll always be part of my memory, and your story is one I’ll never forget.
Huge congratulations, Kim! 🎉🚗

Congratulations to Olivia on successfully passing her driving test on her first attempt in Sevenoaks. The past month has been challenging for both of us, and our primary objective was to prepare for the test by passing several mock tests before the actual examination. To achieve this goal, we had to postpone her test by three weeks. In the interim, she successfully completed several mock tests, which helped alleviate her anxiety. Today’s test was merely a brief 40-minute lesson. She did not attend the test centre to pass the test but rather to demonstrate her readiness for the road. I am certain that this achievement is of great significance to you. No more waiting for your parents to be picked up. No more taking showers or engaging in dangerous walking on the single-track road. This achievement is a substantial milestone before your holiday. I will cherish you in my memory forever. Very well done! 😀👏🚗

Congratulations Tanvir! 🎉

Passing your practical test at Sevenoaks is such a huge accomplishment, and I just want to acknowledge how hard you worked for it. Balancing jobs and driving lessons is never easy, but you stayed dedicated and never gave up. Your perseverance has paid off!

I wish you all the best as you begin this new chapter of independence. I hope this opens up many more opportunities for you. And most importantly, drive safely!

Congratulations to Meena on successfully passing her driving test on her first attempt in Sevenoaks. While I typically document driving experiences, I feel compelled to share Meena’s insights from Chess Driving School.

"I just passed my driving test in first attempt with Mohammad. I can't put it in words how much this means to me and my family. I had few lessons initially with another instructor who just dropped me inferring I am not a natural driver. Mohammad took me as a learner without any judgements, worked with me so hard on my fear, anxiety and weaker areas. He never gave up on me even though I made mistakes again and again. His patience and objective of preparing me for the road made me pass my test in my first attempt. He spends so much time in explaining the logic behind each action and makes sure we understand what we do. Thanks a lot Mohammad, I know we are family friends now and will stay in touch. Good luck on all your future endeavours."

Congratulations to Aidan on successfully passing his driving test on first attempt!! It was a challenging journey, but you’ve made it look easy. Aidan is embarking on a long holiday from January 6th to June. We both need to put in some extra effort, but we were incredibly fortunate to book his test on the 4th, just a day before his departure. Given the urgency, I wanted to make sure he’s well-prepared and safe for the road. He’s been driving to various places like Orpington, Sidcup, and even the M20, and he’s never had to worry about finding test routes. It was a pleasure to hear all those compliments from your examiner. Thank you for believing in the idea that “Driving is more than just passing.” Very well done! Mom & Dad would be really proud of you 🎉👏🙌

Congratulations to Kathi for passing her manual driving test on her first attempt in Sevenoaks! She was so close to a clean sheet, missing it by just one fault. It’s impressive that she took her lessons in her own car. As my first manual pupil, I’m so proud of her. Well done, Kathi! You nailed it!🎉🎉🎉
