🔥Part 1 of the Astra VXR Nurburgring Build🔥
After removing the engine to rebuild to go bigger power, we started with a thorough strip down and inspection of the engine to see weather we had a healthy engine for our base.
Apart from the obvious that we knew that the crankshaft had taken significant wear on the woodruff key on the LEH Crank, all seemed good, and little to no Detonation marks were on the pistons. Always a good sign to see, which told us that it had a somewhat “decent” map on the car.
So, knowing that the crank was scrapyard ready, we set aside a fairly good condition LET crank, and began the preparation for the new ACL Race Shells by polishing each journal then deep cleaning the crank, with the LET being stronger crank from the Z20LEx series, it was the obvious one to choose. Photo shows one journal polished and another not.
So, after many man hours later, cleaning and prepping, we’ve got a freshly forged cammed engine, with a nice honed bore ready to seat them new Mahle rings, a polished crank, skimmed head with freshly lapped in valves, all in one stem seal retainers, and single piper valve springs, Billet RnD Fast Road CATCAMS, cleaned & polished vxr pistons, nevlock performance rods, and with all the right ARP Bolts, plenty of torquing down to spec, we’ve got a proper motor ready to sing at 7.5K RPM 🚙💥💨💨
