🚛⚠️ A haulage company has had its operator’s licence revoked after a DVSA inspection uncovered serious vehicle safety defects that put other road users at risk.

Inspectors found a tractor unit had been operated for more than a month with an engine warning light illuminated, while a trailer wheel was discovered with all 10 wheel nuts loose. The defects were considered so serious that an immediate prohibition was issued.

At a public inquiry, the Deputy Traffic Commissioner described the condition of the trailer as “very dangerous”, warning that there was a real risk of the wheel becoming insecure and causing catastrophic consequences for pedestrians and other road users. 🚨

The inquiry also heard concerns over inadequate driver defect reporting, poor vehicle inspection standards and a lack of evidence showing effective compliance measures were in place.

As a result, the company’s operator’s licence was revoked, while the transport manager and company director were both disqualified for 12 months.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of effective walk-round checks, defect reporting and vehicle maintenance. Road safety must always come first. 🛣️✅
