Technically I am a construction worker. I reconstruct destroyed panels.

Up next will be the reconstruction of a Renault Capture door bottom.
By far the worst and most complex body line rebuild I’ve attempted, the metal didn’t help either, high strength steel that battles against every pull and push.

I’m struggling to get the 9 and a half hour recording into short timelapse so the finished edit will be around 5 mins long.

Back to normality pushing myself into a repair that could have really done with a new panel and paint after it had a Mercedes reverse into it.

Acceptable was the aim , perfect was impossible!

I am not a Hail technician.
Hail big enough to cause damage to vehicles isn’t common in the UK but it does occur. This Skoda Enyaq was caught in such a storm and took a lot of hits. On inspection it had nearly 1000 dents across 10 body panels

The roof , roof rails , bonnet , door and quarter tops all took damage

This would be considered light hail
and although it looks horrendous as a whole it’s not that daunting if the panels are spilt into sections and methodically worked one dent at a time.

A hail calculator is used to determine time according to various factors like access, metal type , method (GPR) or (PDR)
vehicle high , vehicle size , dent size and depth.
It was calculated and sold at 61 PDR hours as a repair time scale.

The work was authorised and booked for a week. It was pre stripped and ready to go.
Day 1 - roof
Day 2 - finish roof start rails
Day 3 - finish roof rails , door and quarter tops
Day 4 - bonnet (hood)
Day 5 - finish bonnet and
Final quality check. (Bodyshop inspection) passed.

Time taken 39.5 hours

Respect to the guys who do this type of work week in week out in
country’s that get bigger seasonal hail that cause much worse damage
I’d much rather do collision damage.

Boomerang, I removed a dent from this Kia Picanto door body line not so long ago , it came back again with an even worse hit.
Smooth seas never made a skilful sailor and I sailed into this one understanding the flow !
It needed lateral tension and linear tension applied to start knocking in the mega high waves through the
lower concave up to the panels strongest point the upper body line.

With all that tension removed and the panel stable the work really begins. Moving metal with pushing tools and knock down hammers methodically back to its original shape.
