Ava Hutchings has had a good few days.
She got a new job on Saturday, still at the same place, but now much more suited to what she’d like to do and is interested in.
And then this morning she goes and passes her driving test, first time, with just a handful of faults!!!
Ava had already decided she’d like me to sit in the back of the test, so when we got to the test centre, the examiner came out with her manager in tow so is was a road trip for 4!!!
She wasn’t fazed one bit, and apart from a slightly heavy right foot, 🤦🏼‍♀️, Ava brought us back to the test centre with a fantastic pass.
Leeds Fest calls next, then a holiday and hopefully after all that, a car will be next on the agenda.
Well done Ava!!! You did fantastically. Let me know what car you end up getting and then when you’re out and about make sure you stay safe. Congratulations again!! 🥳🥳🥳

A very early Sunday start for me and Eric Hobkinson. Anyone who knows me knows that mornings aren’t my thing! So I needed something to wake me up. And Eric certainly delivered on that!
He had only been in the car approximately 5 minutes when a pigeon, who I can only assume was a feeling as tired as myself, decided not to move out of the way. We were on a 60 road and Eric executed everything perfectly, not swerving, not slamming the brakes on, just held his line. R.I.P. pigeon.
So we were now wide awake and Eric then went on to pass his driving test first time with just 3 teeny tiny faults!!
Eric had been out driving with his dad quite a bit, which is great, we just really needed to ‘unparent’ his techniques 🤣 but he listened, took everything on board, and is now ready for the roads!
Eric is having a fabulous week, firstly his A Level results have got him into his uni of choice, and now he’s passed his driving test!!!
Well Done!!!
I’m sure I’ll see you soon, with Charlie, rifling through our vinyl collection 🤣

This is Leon Loveland’s ecstatically excited face!!! I was greeting about 90 minutes earlier by Leon’s ‘feeling a bit nervous’ face. I like this face better though.
I moved to Scarborough in 1996 and started work at Crystal Ford as a paint sprayer. There were a few mechanics there, one of which was Simon Loveland. Fast forward 30 years and I get a message asking if I can take his lad out for driving lessons. Well of course.
A few ‘slightly messy’ habits to sort out but Leon had the natural ability handed down to him which then lead him to come back today with a fantastic first time pass with just a handful of faults.
If you’re going down the seafront and you see him trying to scare the Heebee McGeebees out of everyone at Terror Towers, give him a wave. 🤣

You know when you haven’t seen someone for a little while. Someone who wants to come and meet the new pup! Someone you are really looking forward to seeing. And then when they come round, they’re just trying to tap you up for driving lessons!!! 😭🤣🤣
Well it’s a good job I like you Danielle Louise!!
So then after that meeting, Logan Elliot appeared, albeit fleetingly in my life.
Layer of bricks and builder of walls Logan is confident, cool as a cucumber, and seemed as though he had been born with the skills needed. He put up with my crap jokes but wasn’t as impressed with my matchmaker skills!! I thought she looked lovely in those boots this morning Logan! 🤣
So off he went, out for a quick drive trying to avoid all the roadworks and traffic 😭, but had the cheek to come back with one driving fault!!! Rude!!!!
So a fantastic first time pass now sees Logan out in his Hyundai. Able to drive himself to work and no longer relying on lifts!
Well done!!! Good luck in all that you do, hopefully you’ll get to see a bit of the world soon.

Everyone is excited and ready for the match!! And what a better way to start a very nerve wracking day than to pass your driving test, first time, with just 2 tiny driving faults!!!
Azzurra Sini of Florio’s fame is supporting England tonight. Italy didn’t get too far in the World Cup this time, or the time before, or the time before that, so let’s hope the extra support from Scarborough’s Italian contingency gets up through to the final.
Azzurra listened to everything I said right from the start, and by the end she would give a full running commentary on what she was doing, she was worried that the examiner would think she was a bit weird!! 🤪 Hey!! If weird gets you the pass, who cares!!! 🤣
So now time to have a fab holiday back home then back to your little bit of Italy in your baby blue Fiat 500!!

Georgia first came into my life in 2020. I hadn’t long been instructing and after only a few weeks she disappeared on me!!!
Charming I thought. Then she told me she’d had a baby boy and life had kind of got in the way, but she would DEFINITELY be back!!
Fast forward to April 2026 and I get a message from the now ‘Georgia Townend’ telling me it was time to get her license!!
I picked her up and she announced that baby number 4 was now on the way! What a busy few years she has had.
So off we went. She hadn’t forgotten a thing. My car has improved massively since the days of the red corsa so driving is a lot easier now.
After PLENTY of revision the theory test was out of the way, and then time to move onto the practical.
I’m not really sure how she managed to learn anything as we spent most of the time talking and laughing, to the point last week I was actually crying 🤣. With the help of the Chicken Tonight advert she managed to remember the important bits.
So I picked Georgia up today at 7am for the 8am test and she was soon pulling back into the test centre with a fantastic first time pass!!!
Now time to get in the 500 and take those kiddies out for a spin!

This one happened today!!! 🤣
Saskia Coles-Reeves was quietly confident right from the beginning of lessons. So we mainly chatted, about pretty much everything, and then all of sudden, before we knew it, test day was around the corner and it was time to knuckle down.
Knuckle down she did, with a fantastic pass this morning with just a sprinkling of driving faults!
A very lucky pre test lesson meant we had covered most of the route already so it was all fresh in her head.
No more buses!! Time to get yourself a car!!!
So that’s it now for the Coles-Reeves, oh no it isn’t, little brother starts in August!!

This happened yesterday!!!
My admin skills had a malfunction yesterday!!!
Lucy Carson was another of my ‘not loving the whole driving test experience’ students!
Travels the world, moves to Sheffield for uni, talks to people at work, but put her next to a driving examiner and any rational thoughts go straight out of the window.
Today (yesterday 🤦🏼‍♀️) was different.
A VERY interesting pre test lesson that involved me twice having to ‘gently toot’ my horn because of other people’s such horrendous and unsafe driving, meant Lucy had got all that pent up nervous energy out BEFORE rather than DURING the test!!
Now it’s time to pay Max back with all the lifts and let him sit back and relax. Get her put on your insurance Max!!
So tomorrow (today 🤦🏼‍♀️) is move to new uni accommodation day. Hope it all goes (went) well.

This is how Sunday morning greeted me…Lesley!!! Why is my test in 2 days time??!!! 😱😱 Panic Stations!!!!
So we had tried to grab a cancellation for Oliver Hirstle but it didn’t seem to go through. No correspondence from the DVSA until 48 hrs before. Then it was all systems go.
Oli will be the first to tell you that driving tests don’t come easy to him. The nerves always got in the way, even after a perfect pre test lesson, the wobbly leg would take over.
But not this morning!!
This morning Oli triumphed with a fantastic pass and just a handful of faults.
I want to say a massive thank you to his girlfriend Meg. Since you appeared on the scene, Oli has been so much more focused and confident. So you can finally be HIS passenger princess.
Now you can spoil Mum and Stu, Dad, Callum and Meg by repaying them all with the Hirstle taxi service.

So what have I learnt today?…
I have learnt that if you want the best out of Oscar Taylor, catch him when he has been awake for 7 minutes!!
About a week ago Oscar moved his test from November forward to this morning. 8am this morning. Meaning a 7am pick up for his pre test lesson.
So I, for once in my life, actually arrived early. 😱 I messaged Oscar to say I was there, I then messaged again, called him…twice. Knocked on the front door…twice. Woke the dog. Tried ringing mum.
Had decided that if he hadn’t surfaced by 7:40am we wouldn’t make it and he would have to book it all over again.
Then at 7:37am a VERY bleary eyed Oscar slid into the car. Thank you to Darcie for setting her alarm for work which in turn woke him up.
I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t feeling too hopeful at this point, but he’d paid for it, too late to cancel so we said let’s go for it. We hot footed it over to Seamer Rd, banged a couple of manoeuvres out then it was time to go.
By 8:40am Oscar was back, having passed his test with just a handful of driving faults!!!
I was still recovering from the stress and anxiety he’d caused 😭😭
I’m going to miss you Oscar, I feel we have spent a long time together, chatting about gigs, dogs and jobs amongst other stuff.
Now time to get in your Autie’s Corsa and finally let Darcie be the passenger princess.
