Fuel duty and VAT together make up 51% of what you pay for a litre of petrol, more than the wholesale cost of the fuel itself.

It's easy to assume petrol stations or oil companies are inflating the price at the pump. The single biggest line item is actually tax: fixed government duty plus VAT charged on top of that duty.

Wholesale: 39%. Fuel duty: 34%. VAT: 17%. Retail and distribution: 10%. Tax alone is over half of what you pay.

Common Driving Test Fails

The most # frequent faults seen during the practical driving test. These faults often occur when a driver fails to observe effectively, does not use mirrors correctly, or carries out a manoeuvre without sufficient control or planning.

Candidates must demonstrate that they can drive safely, legally, and independently, without causing other road users to change speed, direction, or take avoiding action. Consistent observation, correct mirror use, and good control of the vehicle are essential throughout the test.
