As an experienced driver, would you drive forward or backward?
As an experienced driver, imagine your car is parked in a very tight space with a pillar close to one side. The challenge is deciding the safest way to get out. Should you reverse first, or drive forward?

Many drivers may think moving forward is the easier option, but that is not always the safest choice. When there is very little space in front of the car, driving forward can increase the chance of hitting a wall, pillar, or corner. It may seem quicker, but the limited room can make turning much harder.

Reversing is often the better option in this situation. It gives you more control over the car and allows a wider turning angle. By backing up slowly and making small steering adjustments, you can create more space between your vehicle and the pillar before moving forward. Using your mirrors and checking your surroundings carefully can also help you avoid damage.

The right decision depends on how much room is available, what you can clearly see, and how close the obstacles are. Every parking space is different, so it is important to stay patient and avoid rushing.

The main goal is not simply to leave the parking spot as fast as possible. It is to get out safely without scratching the car or hitting nearby objects. Moving slowly, staying aware of your surroundings, and keeping full control of the steering and brakes will usually lead to the safest and smoothest exit.

This is not a toy.
( A requested post)

The rider was 13 years old and the scooter was capable of 54mph.
At that speed, a simple mistake can become a life changing event in a matter of seconds.

A pothole. A pedestrian stepping out. A car emerging from a junction. A moment of inexperience. Any one of those could end in tragedy.

There are no seatbelts, airbags or protective shell around the rider.
Just a child standing on a machine capable of speeds many adults would struggle to handle safely I know some people get frustrated when police seize these vehicles.
They see it as heavy handed or unnecessary.

Personally, I would rather see a scooter seized than a family receiving the worst phone call of their lives.

This is not about spoiling anybody’s fun.
It is about recognising that children often do not fully understand risk, consequences, stopping distances or how quickly things can go wrong.

The laws surrounding e scooters and modified machines exist for a reason.
They were not written to inconvenience people. They were written because experience has shown what happens when powerful machines and inexperience collide.

The saddest part is that many of these young riders are not trying to be reckless.
They are simply unaware of how vulnerable they really are.

A 13 year old travelling at 54mph on a stand on scooter is not something we should normalise.

It is a tragedy waiting for the right set of circumstances.

What are your thoughts?

Should parents face consequences when children are caught riding machines like this, or should the responsibility sit entirely with the rider?
